I have been dating my boyfirend for a month.

and when i told my brother (JW) this he asked was I going to marry him?!?!

Why should I have to answer this question now? Jehovah's Witnesses what is so wrong with dating? Why should I have to think like this!?!?

Jehovah's Witnesses are hardly "obsessed with dating", and in fact it seems that the brother of this questioner asked exactly one question, a good question. As a reminder, that question was "Are you going to marry [your current boyfriend]?"

Apparently, this was an unwelcome thought to the dater.

Clearly, if the immediate answer had been "No", then the questioner's brother would likely have suggested she end the relationship. True Christians (such as Jehovah's Witnesses) understand that dating is not mere recreation, and is only with an eventual view toward marriage.

Of course, answers such as "Yes", "Maybe", "I don't know", or "Might your own business" could easily have freed the dater from an immediate decision about whether or not to continue dating her month-long boyfriend.

Ok, simple answer, if your brother asked you that, you should ask him why.

As Christians we Witnesses do see dating as means to an end, marraige.

It could simply be your brother was simply having idle conversation with you.

Hope this helps.

It depends.

If you are having premarital sex with someone, then he would ask a question like this.. I don't know what exactly is going on, but thats just my opinion on why he asked.

Any one of Jehovah's Witnesses can date, along as they are mature enough and follow the Bible guidelines.

I think it is reasonable to think that when two people are dating, it means they see good 'husband/wife' qualities in the other person- or else why start the process? (Unless one is the type that just likes to play around with others' hearts)

I do not know your brother personally, but I think he was not judging you by asking- he's most likely very concerned about his sister (Typical of brothers!!)

HA HA HA HA! The jw's believe that dating is bad - they expect people to get to know each other in groups and other stupid stuff. When I was a jw, they would give talks at the kingdom hall about appropriate dating. I remember one elder said that it was unacceptable for two people to be dating for a year - they should be married within a few months of their courtship. That's some crazy stuff. I wouldn't worry about what your brother says - he's brainwashed.

I would just say, it's too soon to know, I couldn't commit for the rest of my life after knowing someone for only 1 month. I assume that their problem stems from premarital sex and the length of your relationship.

There is nothing wrong in marrying another person in another religion as long as you love each other.

It's way to early to be thinking about marriage. Tell your brother to mind his own business. You need lots of time with your new boyfriend before you will know. Good luck.

You should date only some people like jws think dating is automatic sex. Pray for your bro that Christ will open his eyes to that false religion.
