If that were the case, he wouldn't have the pleasure of tossing the majority of the population into a burning pit.

Human beings would not be healthy and strong spiritually, if they did not have challenges. A good and a moral God, would make sure mankind could continuously exercise its spiritual muscles, by presenting problems to solve or overcome. A good and moral God, would not create a place, where exercising these muscles could not happen. What God wants, is for everyone to positively contribute to making the future of this world a better place, though using our moral muscles to motivate us to work real hard

Some people will say the whole "Free will" thing as a test to show who is worthy of making it to heaven or something...
That is a weird thing, though, cause what would be the harm in just letting everyone in heaven and making evil and ugliness impossible to occur in the first place on earth? That makes "God" seem kind of petty and childish and mean-spirited. "Well, you have a choice but if you choose the WRONG choice you're gonna burn! I could have helped you, but I'm not. Nanananabooboo!"
Hmmm indeed.

"If God can arrange it so everyone freely chooses not to do evil in Heaven" - I guess you have never heard the story of how satan rebelled against God in heaven and was cast out and one third of the angels with him.

Would you rather have someone love you because they have to or because they want to?
God didn't want to create a bunch of programed robots...
He wants His children to love and worship Him on their free-will. (Heaven is the reward for that)
The absence of evil in heaven results in no sickness, death, pain, so on and so forth.

Because god enjoys a joke as much as the next guy. that's what this world is. a joke. on us. we're it. get used to it. :)
Do right, because it's the right thing to do. Help others because you would want someone to do it for you. Leave your mark on this world, so that people remember your name fondly in years to come. Don't do right because you fear hell or crave heaven. Do right just BECAUSE.
that'll REALLY tick him off. :>

Because God gave us free will and made a vow to mankind and He cannot break a vow made to mankind.
