no, the only things written in stones are headstones and monuments and such, and even those can be changed as proven by the ancient egyptians.
the tarot shows how things are proceeding at the moment, it helps view the present situation and it's most likely outcome. the very reading can actually negate that possible future.
i use the cards primarily to assess the present situation and the possibilities open to me

Hello Transfusion
It is as you have said, I run a Tarot Course & your follow up stated about "or if it only shows how the current situation will turn out if it's continued the same way?" is nearly exactly as I have put it!!
What ever type of reading is being performed, with or without tools such as the Tarot, the questioner has free will. But that said we almost always stick to our own personal tried, tested (even when they dont work) methods to acheive what we wish etc.
Human nature is limiting, we fear change & so tend to not redirect that free will, the majority of times we will follow our old familiar routes.
Sometimes within a reading where the client is facing a situation that is not what they wish, spirit will show that it is time to move away from old methods of coping etc, so that they can see a new direction is open, should they wish to take it.
Hope that helps
In Peace
Pam

The power is not in the cards but in the person reading the cards. A good reader can do an accurate reading with tea leaves, cards, tarot cards, reading stones whatever. It is not the material used but the person behind it. Yes I would say a good majority of those that claim to be "gifted" are phoney but there are alot of excellent readers that truly have ability, you have to search them out and listen to others what they have been told. Some things are indeed written in stone, amount of marriages, time of death ect.

I consider them more like guides.
Sometimes what is shown is quite accurate to the current situation but not 100% so I cant take it as "stone". Thats why I prefer to take it more as a guide then anything else.

I as a reader can tell you that a tarot reading is a more like a road map.
you have free will, the reading is telling you of events of people, money, business and emotions.
If the reader is good, they will tell already what you know in the few throw of the cards.
It's the last 2-4 cards, depending on the spread, will give you your guide to future journey.

The furture is never written in stone. It's what can be or what should be or what might be but it is NEVER what is.
I'm skeptical of tarot but I have had two readings by two friends with sorta freaky results. So I dunno. The world is too complicated for there to be only one future.

The tarot is a great way to tap into your subconscious. If you go to a professional, take it with a grain of salt. If you do it yourself, it is accurate because you interpret the cards with the knowledge you don't know you know.

No. That's not what the Tarot is. It's a predication of what could happen if things continue as they are.

Predictions are not set in stone. They are the 'future' if another new thought is not had anywhere.
