It's not uncommon at all.

My niece got it in her head that all women were "Mama."

Just calmly remind him when he calls you "Mama" that you are "Gwyn."

Your brother is at the age of labelling. In his developing mind, all female caregivers are "Mama"... most likely before long if you take him to the store he'll point at men and call them "Dada/Daddy". It's totally normal and it means he is developing normally. If it bothers you, just gently remind him each time "No honey, not Mama... Gwyn!" in a soft voice with a big smile and an open face. When he finally starts calling you by your name, make a HUGE thing out of it! Smile and laugh and say "Good boy! Gwyn! I'm proud of you!" and he'll be so happy he made you happy... he'll always call you by your name. Good luck!!

When my brother was 2, I was 12 and I did help with alot of the raising, like you, he called me mama. I think its just the age, and a bonding thing. At that age they dont have a big vocabulary, and you do some of the things that mama does for him, so he associates that I think. He'll grow out of it. I hope that helped, and made sense, lol.

At his age, he doesnt have a very large vocabulary. Hes going to call whoever does motherly things mama. Thats just what it means to him. It means he loves you.
Just correct him, because it may be ute now, but if you dont correct him, he'll call you mama when hes older and should know the difference.

I babysat often for a 6mo when I was 14 & by age 2 he called me mama all the time!! Needless to say, this upset his mother, so we 'trained' him to call me by name. Everytime your brother calls you mama, point at yourself and say Gwyn then point at him and say his name. Everytime!!

He's associating you with your mother because you show him love and take care of him.

My son is just over two and since his dad is working alot he has started to call his uncle "daddy" every time he tries to leave. It's like every cat and dog usually gets called by the same name. Like some one else has mentioned toddlers label things before they realize that each has it's own name. Say your name whenever he calls you mama and he'll pick it up.

I dunno why,but thats so sweet! Dont u like be called mama by ur little brother? But actually I think its not healthy to induce that, just try slowly to correct him everytime that he calls u like that, tell him: Im not ur mama,Im ur older sister,it might even turn like a joke between u guys,u can make him laught at same time u will be teaching him.Kisses for u and ur little bro.

That would depend on what your name is - maybe that's how he's trying to say your name.

Kids that young would call my sister 'Deeda'...her name is Andrea, but that's the only way they could get it out. My brother would call me Oday...my name does not resemble Oday in any way, shape or form.

because he loves you and you give him alot of attention that he wants. i think he knows who his mom is, little kids tend to "cling" to people that show them the most affection.
