When I show respect for a boss or an instructor, I am considered one of the following:

1) Brown noser or butt kissing
2) Goody two shoes

Why is showing respect to higher authority such a CRIME?!

Also, showing respect does not mean you have ulterior motives.

Why?

Because we live in a society that is becoming more crass and crude all the time. Keep on being polite. Do it for yourself, because you have respect for yourself which you then share with others. It's counter-cultural these days!

You should know showing respect for authority is not on the secular-progressive agenda. You have to denigrate all you come in contact with in order to inflate your own delusional sense of self-worth.
Children are taught these days that even if they are a complete loser with major issues like dishonesty, drug abuse, violent tendencies, academic failure and social maladjustment, they are still "special" and "deserve" to be treated with the same respect you would give anyone else.
This leads those who are relatively well-adjusted to believe that they are a super-star at life and no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, in a position of power over them is truly better or more knowledgeable. That person is not there because they are smarter, have more knowledge, skills and work harder, it is because they somehow got "lucky" or just happened to stay with the company long enough to get promoted and don't really deserve respect.

Respect is not a crime, however when we show respect to someone it is usually because we share a common value, thought or belief. So in once sense it shows a bit of sameness while in another we may appear to eager to please (thus the goody two shoes and brown nosing)

Well, for me, just be yourself. That what I've done in all my previous works and present office. And it works.

By being myself, I respect my bosses and my colleagues as well, so in turn they respect me the way I treated them.

Respect is not something that you get easily. It must be earned and I know I earned respect from my colleagues and bosses by showing them how dedicated I am doing my work, and not trying to stealing everyone attention at work.

Greet your bosses and colleagues on daily basis, treat them with equal respect and help them whenever you can. You earn their respect in no time...

Good luck.. :)

lol... sounds like you're in Australia! not sure why but it seems to be considered that if you're respectful of your boss you are after something.

lol... as a boss, sometimes i do wonder if there's an ulterior motive, but it's always nice, regardless, when some consideration and respect is shown

it's not a crime. i just think it's just not the norm anymore. people are not as polite and considerate as they used to be and now when you show some sort of respect or kindness to an authority figure people are suspicious of you. i used to say good morning and goof night to my offices mates everyday. only to be met with snarls and grunts. no kidding. some people are just barbarians and be glad you're not!

Not at all, but I like to think of it as 'mutual respect'.

Boss probably respects you as well. You probably enjoy your work. You are being mature and have a positive attitude.

If others think 1 or 2, its their misery and problem not yours.

Consider those who chide you for showing respect. They're resentful for their own stations in life caused by their own inadequacies, failures and poor attitudes.

Honor and respect those who are deserving. Those receiving the honor and respect can tell if it's sincere or if it's brown-nosing.

we live in a time where it's not considered "cool" be respectful of rules, authority and others, sad to say. but your parents raised you well, and despite what others think, its an good trait to possess.

keep doing you...the others will get over it, especially when they see you go far in life and their still in their "ruts" that they created for themselves...

People are not used to seeing it. Most people are out for themselves and their own progress. Dont let it bother you!!

It will benifit you.

Who desires to be seen as rude or a rebel...past the age of 15?!?!
