Matthew 25:40
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

As a christian, it would make a big difference as to WHY the person is homeless. If the person is lazy and will not work, then that is the life they have chosen. IF the person is sick, or a widow, or a orphan, then it is the duty of the Church to try to give them a hand up. This does not mean a new life style for them, but a helping hand until they can do better. That is also dependent of them making a true effort to do better. Many years ago, that is what churches did, they help those in need. But then our government decided it could do it better, so it started taking more taxes from the working people to give to those who wont work, Now most resent anyone on the system. I know I do. I work very hard to see my money given to someone who want work so they can buy another pack of cigarettes, or a new pair of Nike shoes.

to me homeless is someone or family that is without home. i.e. due to not having money, a fire, tornado, etc. can be anyone of us at any given time. also if you have a penny and that is all you have you can still give tithes. you just end up giving all you have. however God will bless you for that. just like the lady in the Bible who gave a penny. and everyone mocked her but Jesus basically said she gave all she had what about us. i believe we should give at least 10 percent if not more. plus 5 percent for offerings. and then whatever else. this is my opinion. nothing says you cant give more. not to mention if all you do have is a penny then that is not going to do you any good anyways these days.

but again to me homeless is what it says you are without a home.

Well, when I belonged to the Presbyterian church, they were well aware that we were about to foreclose and I was 16 and working 45 hours during the school year to help out, but all they wanted was our tithing. We needed to help God's less fortunate people. Good grief. I guess their view is give till you have no more to give. Only when you are homeless will they stop hounding you for your money.

In Wicca, there is no single point of view on homelessness -- that is left up to the individual Wiccan. However, I know Wiccans who, out of compassion for their fellow men, donate to or volunteer for agencies that lend help to the homeless.

For the most Orthodox Hindu, one must become homeless in the last years of their lives to achieve Moshka. You release all your ties to this temporary, illusionary world and become a beggar. Now I consider myself a devout Hindu but at this stage of my life I don't think I have the courage to do that, but who knows in 20 years or so I may...

Homelessness is something that happens to poor people, and the poor are here to be helped. The poor are an opportunity for those with resources to lend a hand.
People are homeless because they fall throught the cracks of social programs. They were evicted from public housing, or evicted from an apartment for not paying the rent, etc. There are homeless shelters to put them up until they can find a social program that gives them more permanent help.
It is our responsibility as voters to make sure there ARE social programs in place to help the poor.
The taxes we pay go toward these programs and are part of the tithing we pay to the Lord: "what you do for the least of me, you have done for me." -- Jesus Christ

Why religion?
Is it not social problem?
According to my understanding of Hinduism, your condition is due to Karma that you have accumulated by your actions.
You can improve your present circumstances by your present actions. You can not get out of the results of your past actions but you can improve the situation. It is like instead of serving your time behind bars you may spend in home with a monitor.
