This is what Luke 21:31 says
Luke 21:31 (King James Version)
31So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
........................................................................................
I don't drink alcohol, those who do are playing with fire. You never drink a lot and become an alcoholic without drinking the first drink.
1 Thessalonians 5:22
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Matthew 26:41
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Many church going people do drink and will disagree with me. I have to many alcoholics in my family to think other wise.
The Bible give us to much warning of what can/will happen. It is best to stay away from it. We now have a variety of things to drink now a days not to have to drink alcohol.
Ephesians 5:18
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
Galatians 5:21
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 6:10
Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Luke 21 talks about 'too much drinking'. Taking this out of context we could argue that this means don't drink at all, but it doesn't actually say that. It only says don't drink to the point of drunkeness.
We must also remember that in first century palestine wine was one of the safest ways to remain hydrated. They did not have sophisticated water drainage so drinking water was potentially dangerous. However wine, since it had been fermented was free of all infections and water borne diseases and so was very safe to drink.
The fact that Jesus turned water into wine, and drank wine at the last supper shows that wine (alcohol) in itself is not sinful. However, getting drunk, damaging your body (which is a temple of the holy spirit) and making alcohol your god (idoloatory) is a sin.
It is only because of the risk of being addicted that a Christian (group or idnividual) choose to take a compeltely prohibitionist stance against alcohol, however, as I have shown while this may be sensible and healthy, it is not essentially biblical
PS Jesus saves:
you argue that Jesus did not make wine, he made grape juice? Where in the bible does it say that? or is that just your interpretation? When Jesus had wine at passover, was that grape juice again? by your interpretation?
You can't sit there and say the bible say 'alocohol is bad', and then in the parts where it says Jesus drinks alcohol, 'it doesn't actually mean alcohol'. Sorry but that what it says. You can't pick and choose!

In the context of the ancients times the alcohol was not banned, in fact the blessing of the meals was doing with wine and Jesus get wine from the water.
What is really banned is get drunk, but like a good tradition between the Christians was established do not drink alcohol

If wine and other alcohol were prohibited in scripture, why was the first miracle Jesus performed converting water into wine at a wedding feast? Why would the Apostle Paul tell Timothy to "drink a little wine for the sake of your stomach"? Read all the scriptures carefully, and you'll find they discuss becoming intoxicated ... staying "too long" with the wine, etc. ... not drinking in moderation.
OH and what of the Last Supper where Jesus and his apostles shared unleavened bread and wine, with Jesus saying a blessing over both. Would Jesus bless something that he disciples then and now were to avoid?

Lu 21:31...In this way YOU also, when YOU see these things occurring, know that the kingdom of God is near.
Nothing here about alcohol. I read the Bible everyday and have YET to see it condemn drinking alcohol. The only thing it says is wrong is HEAVY drinking and DRUNKEDNESS.
Someone mentioned a list of verses on drinking, but if you re-read them, you'll see they are talking about HEAVY drinking.
1Ti 3:8...Ministerial servants should likewise be serious, not double-tongued, not giving themselves to a LOTof wine, not greedy of dishonest gain,
Paul, speaking on the BENEFIT of wine...1Ti 5:23...Do not drink water any longer, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent cases of sickness.

Good question-however the reference you cite has nothing to do with alcohol. Nowhere in the Holy Bible is alcohol banned or prohibited. Drunkeness is what is abhorred. With that said, many Chiristians choose to voluntarily abstain from alcohol. There are many false teachings about alcohol based on personal preferences. There are many references in the Holy Bible where responsible consumption is condoned or encouraged.
It would help if you gave a better reference and mentioned the translation you are using.

The Bible says not to be a drunkard, it does not say not to drink. Jesus' first miracle was to turn water into wine. If drinking is a sin, then Jesus was complicit in causing others to sin by way of his first miracle. Drinking alcohol for the purpose of getting drunk or to fill a void in your life in where the sin is.
Writer's Block: I am a fundamentalist and the Bible says not to be a drunkard, it does not say you shouldn't drink. It is clearly stated in the scripture. I choose NOT to drink for the most part (my husband and I might enjoy a drink or two every six months or so if our kids are gone) because of the things that excessive drinking can lead to.

If it was SO clearly banned then Jesus wouldn't have drunk wine at the Last Supper. What is wrong is drunkedness, which can lead to infidelity, poverty and cruelty in a family situation. There is no ban on drinking wine there never was one not in the old or the new testaments.

In John 2, Jesus turns water into wine, for people to drink.

Because most of the people, since ancient era, like to drink.I don`t know,& it`s my fault to have an opinion w/o the proper research, but Noah, the egyptians, (heard, don`t believe me),
were the one who produced beer, & Noah, wine. After that, The Adonai, drank wine at The Last Supper.Bottom line, as I understand your inquiry, could be defined as:alcohol for enjoyment or to get drunk
