"And the Lord was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron." (Judges 1:19)
I have asked this before but got surprisingly few answers.

This isn't a contradiction at all if you first understand that 1) Hebrew has no punctuation; and 2) the numbering system is not original to the Bible.

Actually, the first part of the sentence, "the Lord was with Judah," should be the end of the 18th verse, which explains the Tribe of Judah's success: God was with them, giving them the power to defete the Canaanites that lived in Zephath. The next part of verse 19 pertains to Judah's later rebellion against God, which caused Him to withdraw His support.

The Jewish sage Jonathan ben Uzziel explained it this way: "And the WORD of Jehovah was in the support of the house of Judah, and they extirpated the inhabitants of the mountains; but afterwards, WHEN THEY SINNED, they were not able to extirpate the inhabitants of the plain country, because they had chariots of iron. They were now left to their own strength, and their adversaries prevailed against them."

Iron is like kryptonite to people of God's planet. You'd think they would have been advanced enough to detect the iron core of the Earth before they invaded 6,000 years ago.

You are trying to say that God could not drive out those people, But it was Judah, & not God.

God didn't understand metallurgy yet, he needed humans to come up with better ways of reconfiguring his creation. God is a blunderer, that's why it took evolution to come up with us, he just put some amino acids in a puddle and waited a long time.
