Actually, I call myself a painter rather than an artist because the term 'artist' is used to define any number of disciplines these days and I am definitly no singer or musicial but those folks are artists too.

I see myself as an artist---for I express my views, my thoughts, and my feelings all through writing. An artist's tools is not only limited to paintbrushes, paints, and canvas.
For a writer, the tools to create a written piece of art is pen and paper (often typewriters). Not only that, but a writer's main tools come from his surroundings, his inspirations, and his people.
For a musician, the tools to create a sensual piece of art is his instrument and a music sheet. But there is another tool for a music artist---his heart, from where he reveals his inner voice to the world with his notes.

I like to draw and paint just for fun or just to express my feelings, so either way, people like what I draw.
