I've never heard of this. I've never even heard of it being given out in public high schools. What school are you talking about exactly?

YES!!!!! I would be extremely upset if my daughter was given the pill w/out my knowledge. Not only does it infringe on moral/religous values of the parents, it is also a safety concern. The people providing this to the children have no knowledge of the medical status of the child or the family. I myself am not able to take many types of birth control pills due to a medical condition. This is wayyyy more harmful than helpful. Girls at this age need no additional encouragement. Not to mention, as previously stated, this in NO WAY protects against STD's or AIDS. If not used properly the pill is totally ineffective anyway. I believe this will give girls false sense of "protection". What girl, at age 11 or 12 (middle school) is responsible enough to remember to take it EVERY single day? If this happens in my area I will seriously consider homeschooling. (she is in plenty of actvities for socializing, heck she would actually have time for more)

the thing is, i dont believe they are going to mkae it easy for the 5th and 6th and otherwise younger-than-18 year olds to get their hands on this birth control, odds are, they will have consent btwn the student and school nurse giving out the birth control, that before doing so their parents will be informed. if you were that young would you really want your parents to know you were having sex? true, there will still be some kids who do it, but they will be the ones to get early unwanted pregnancies, which their own children in turn will learn from.. i believe the point is is to prevent std's and pregnancy, they will hopefully be increasing sex education in schools because what they have now obviously is not doing the trick and the ones that end up with unexpected children of their own will at the very least have a new lesson to teach future generations...
ALL of this ofcourse, is coming from my opinion, i have heard of them doing this but i have very little of an idea how they are bringing it about, this is only as i would hope it to be. i agree sex at that young of an age is ridiculous, but thats the result of an uneducated child, as we know ignorance is not bliss, especially in this kind of situation.

When you think about it, it's a catch 22. We educate our children about sex...whether they listen to the right parts of the classes is beyond me...at early ages, because they are having sex earlier and earlier in life. But they are having sex earlier and earlier, because they are learning about it earlier. Once again, they aren't learning the most important parts, the pregnancy and STD parts. So we do need to protect our kids, I believe in birth control whole heartedly, being given out at school, kind of a toss up, almost ought to start giving it to them in shots and not letting them know about it! LOL... I think that is something that a parent needs to decide, and if the parent is comfortable with it being given out at school, that's great. But then once again, it's another catch, a lot of kids choose birth control without their parents knowledge, and that is perfectly legal, so it's really a toss-up. Where are they doing this by the way?

If parents were to talk to their children about sex, all the dangers and consequences that is, and talk to them openly and understand that they are going to experiement, then the schools wouldn't have to supply kids with birth control and disease protection. I see nothing wrong with this as children are havign sex younger and younger. Teaching abstinence is not working, so something has to be done.
There have been 3 children under the age of 12 pregnant in my state this year alone. If someone had talked to them, would it have happened?
I always wonder who the parents blame when their kids are the ones who get pregnant. The schools are limited in how they can handle it. In my state, they are not allowed to teach safe sex practices. They only teach abstinence until you're married.

My question here is,What took them so long. When I was growing up in the 60's and the 70's it was a problem that was swiped under the rug, and you sent your pregnant young teen off to live with a out of state friend or relative. The joke at school. Was Wheres Merry? She's on a 9 month vacation.Or she's off getting an abortion. That was 7th grade.

Exactly why I'm homeschooling. We're not religious freaks and my kids will definately be educated and socialized but while I am still their parent and guardian and they are still my young kids, I will NOT allow them to be in a position when they're that young to have the opportunity to be having sex. Too many parents with latch-key kids that have that two to three hours after school to do whatever they want. My advice to these parents that think it's okay to let your 12 year old have sex because that's just what kids these days are doing, need to let go of that extra money and be home with your kids. They are still kids and some are trying to find love the wrong way. Is it worth it to let your "child" grow up too fast and possibly ruin their future dreams and possibilities?

WOW! I did not know that. I'm pregnant now with my first child and I was scared that I was having my child too young (I'm 22 and married). I can't image my child coming home with birth control and condoms at 11 and 12 years old. It's wrong because that is the parents job to educate their own child, not the school. I mean they can show "that movie", but not supply them with things to encourage them to have sex as long as you use those items.

There is nothing wrong with that. It will reduce the rate of pregnancy in young kids, and no just because you give them birth control doesn't mean they think its ok to have sex. The only thing I would be worried about is if they have Factor V Leiden (a blood clotting disorder) birth control could make them have clots.

Yes!! Sorry, but yes!
Birth control should be given by a doctor, nurse, health clinic, you know what I mean. I would be so pissed if someone gave my 10 to 12 year old birth control. At that age I was more worried about playing with my dolly's.

I have to agree with you! Whatever happened to the parents guiding their children through life? Oh I know ,with the economy the way it is, both parents must work ! BULL!!!!! My husband and I both worked and we still had time or better yet , we made time for our children. We felt they were our responsibility not the public!!! There are not any morals left in the country!!! People wake up!! We have children because we love them not because we want everyone else doing our job for us! OUR CHILDREN NEED US!!!! It is our responsibility to educate them!!!
