Holy books are open to interpretation and are frequently contradictory. Sometimes they're just damn confusing; possibly on purpose. The point is that there is no concrete idea of what god/God is. The idea of God/god is completely open to interpretation and is generally what people "need" god/God to be: either an explantion, cosmic force of nature, nature itself, a kind caregiver or even a supervisor. Albert Einstein used the word god instead of cosmological constant, basically a theoretical formula that combined every force in the universe/multiverse. So, with all the various types of god/God and the slight differences that seperate even the most similar, could monotheistic religions actually be regarded as monotheistic.

Monotheism is a theological doctrine stating the belief of one god. In that sense it exists. Religion exists not in a vacuum but because of people. No people = no religion. If you are asking if the One God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the Ultimate Reality and Truth, then that cannot be proved. Monotheism also discounts the belief that there is a spark of divinity within all of nature or people. It's mythologies teach nature is corrupt and will end with the start of a new creation. It allows it's followers to dehumanize unbelievers, making them an 'it' instead of a 'thou' and provides an (erroneous) justification for mistreatment. My personal opinion is that history has proved this to devastating affect on the people of the world and the planet itself. In fact the Old Testament glorifies it. All the religions which profess a belief in one god view god differently, sometimes changing what god is over time. The New Testament god seems quite different from the Old Testament god and yet millions claim the god is one in the same. People within the same belief system cannot agree on god or doctrine hence the thousands upon thousands of denominations. Hinduism says all gods/goddesses are manifestations or aspects of One, so to them all religious worship the same god. Each culture views the Divine in their eyes and creates him/her to suit their needs. Religion evolves to meet the needs of the people or it dies. No one religion has a trademark on truth. The truth lies in the mind of the beholder.

No two Christians believe the same thing. They pick and choose which parts of their holy book (one that 87% haven't even read) that they feel allows them to live in modern times yet still be high and mighty, self righteous preachers. All religions are the same. Only theologians who have an educated expertise in a particular religion can truly know what the gist of that religion really is. Even then they can't give a straight answer.

Take for example Catholosism. Just about every Catholic you meet would claim to be monotheistic, yet they have dozens of worshipable deitys from god to the virgin mary to angels to Jesus to holy saints.

In answer to your question, no, monotheism does not really exist.

Christianity is an interesting example, actually. Though technically you guys worship only one God, tons of prayers are offered to various saints, Mary, etc etc. They end up seeming like lower deities themselves, like all the gods under Zeus.

A bigger heap of garbage I have seldom seen.

Also:

'one God.....who eternally exists in 3 distinct Personalities'

doesn't even make a proper sentence. So that stinks, too.

Monotheism terrifies!!!!!

I find it funny how different one persons religion is from another, and how some people will explain a certain part versus other people...I don't think you can find 2 people who agree totally about their religion, except for atheists...

Does Monotheism really exist?

You need to ask God on this one. I'm serious. Ask Him.

"We believe in one God.....who eternally exists in 3 distinct Personalities:"

Great...run by a god with a psychological disorder. How quaint

As C.S. Lewis wrote: we need to pray not to who we think God is, but who He knows Himself to be.

we dont have any idea... , (whether there is one god/many gods or no god ), ......so people should realize this & stop writing fictional books (such as bible , quran etc etc.. & fooling around by terming it word of god ) & create fictional characters (jesus , mohammed , etc & terming them so called god )......efforts should be made for development of humans (eliminating poverty, hunger etc ) as a whole, rather than dividing people in name of gods, religion etc etc
