From what I can tell, and reading the commentaries from Adam Clark and Albert Barnes, it would seem that John had a similar temperment to Jesus, thus relating with him the most. There are no real Bible verses that confirm or explain this phrase. The reason for this is that in those days (and these should be too) they did not name any names, for fear of growing too arrogant. Think how John could have declared himself most favored of the Son of God, or some such "regal" title. No, John merely said that he had a special place among Jesus heart, and mentioned it accordingly.
If you notice, John was the only disciple that died a natural death, so he could take care of the mother. He was loved especially by Jesus, as we all are today. He was given responsibility of the mother of God, given the end time revalations, allowed a natural death, sat by Jesus at supper. John was favored, but not becuase of any...other reason...than simple love for the Savior.

Your own answer certainly seems a little strange. Do you really think giving a few examples is the same as giving an answer which can be explained by logic?

If John the Evangelist said he was "the disciple whom Jesus loved", I pretty sure he meant he had a special place in the heart of Jesus. Maybe you could say an especially close friend or his favourite disciple. Why he was so probably can't be explained "logically" (whatever that would mean in this context), but could just be speculated about.

If I speculate, maybe one contributing reason was that John was very young, almost a child, when he became a disciple. Maybe they got a little of a father /son relationship, more than the other disciples. This seems quite probable to me.

If you say he was "the disciple whom Jesus loved" BECAUSE Jesus told John to look after his mother and John was leaning on Jesus breast at the last supper, that would be a little like if one of your best friends at your own funeral tell people he was your best friend BECAUSE once you let him borrow your car and another time you greeted him especially cordially, giving him a hug. That's examples, in the best case confirming you were friends, but in no way explaining WHY or HOW. If you just want to find some proof he really was "the disciple whom Jesus loved", I'm afraid the only proof you can find is his own testifying, right there when he said he was.

Do you be conscious that each and each of the examples are basic strikes, following the regulation. you notice, Christians stick to the bible the place it says we at the instant are not any longer to stay under the regulation, we are to stay by ability of religion. Romans 4:15-sixteen John sixteen, that the comforter will stay interior believers. in basic terms a Spirit can stay interior a guy or woman. additionally confident the Spirit became already there, even with the undeniable fact that it became no longer residing interior the believers yet. So, confident the comforter is the Holy Spirit. maximum severely, Muslims don't think who Jesus truly is. Jesus is God the Son. John one million:one million interior the initiating became the be conscious, and the be conscious became with God and the be conscious became God. He became with God interior the initiating. proper right here it says that the be conscious became God. The be conscious all of us understand is Jesus. how are you able to stick to somebody you do not have self assurance? Matthew 20:18-19 Jesus mentioned.. they are going to condemn Him to loss of life. and could hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. on the third day he would be raised to life! The Quran denies the very words of Jesus!

I am a minister and teacher of the word ot the Lord and have been in study for the last 15 yrs and know getting to go and teach others of the love Christ wants for us on a personal level. Your question is why was John called the one Jesus loved,,
If read Matthew 17:1-13 and you will read about Jesus take John ,Peter ,James on the mountain..
They where taken because they where Jesus enter circle of friends because they didn't just believe in all Jesus said, they also applied in all their lives,,Jesus wants more then for us to get to know him,he wants us as friends and doers of his word
John was one of those given revelation about the future and in turn gave it to future Christians to come...
It shows as an example of the relationship Chirst wants with us

Peace.
Actually those places which you have mentioned could be interpreted in different ways. It could have been John (which I find the least likely case), it could have been Mary Magdalene (which is equally unlikely) or it could have been James the Just, the successor to the title of 'Mebakker', in the Jerusalem Church (the most likely candidate).
Since Jesus was the first-born of the family, he was simply passing on the responsibility to the next sibling in line, which was supposedly James, his brother. This would also harmonize with James assuming the leadership in the newly-founded Church, as the true blood-heir, Simon, was probably not yet old enough to take on that responsibility. Most of Jesus teachings were directed toward Simon, to prepare him for his role as Priest, and 'King', when Simon's father, Jonas (John the Baptist), was beheaded by the Herodians.

It was known by John, really all the Apostles that Jesus loved them. John in his humility didn't wish to put his own name in a predominate position just said the disciple that Jesus loved.. Though it could have been any of them it is know that it was indeed John..

For support of this answer I quote:
John 15:12
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

John was the youngest. Doesn't the baby in the family always get more attention. This was the human side of Jesus and not the God side. No better way to prove that Jesus was also a human being. Jesus said He was tempted as we are tempted so He had to love as we love except without sin.

John was too humble to mention himself by name, specialy since he was Jesus' favorite, so in the books he wrote John referred to himself in the third person as "The Disciple whom Jesus loved".

quite simply john really understood how deeply the Lord loved him and had an intimate freindship with Jesus. so close in fact that Jesus made him one of the three (peter, james and john) who witnessed him transfigure on the mountain, stayed with him in the garden of gethsemane, etc.
so anyone who is in a right relationship with Jesus (GOD) can say this with no problem. I am a disciple whom Jesus loves.

1) the INTERPRETATION of John leaning on Jesus breast is that of DaVinci - it is NOT a snapshot of what really happened. LOGIC dictates that these depictions are NOT what the apostles or Christ really even looked like.

2) Mary did not have other children so Christ, needing to make sure His Mother was taken care of, entrusted Her care to John. Very possibly John wanted to make sure that people understood that Jesus didn't leave His beloved Mom in the care of "just anyone".

Tradition dictates that John was one of the youngest members of Christ's apostles. He was like a "kid brother" to Him.
