Suffered from depression myself. Had counselling and on meds - just weaned myself of the meds after 3 years. Thing that got me on the road to recovery was really focusing on my negative thoughts and becoming aware of when I was having them. Wrote all negative thoughts down and later in the day when I was feeling a bit 'better' went over negative thoughts and really tried to understand why I had them and if they were valid or not. Also read a fab book called "The Feeling Good Handbook", sorry can't remember the author. Excellent book, really helps put things into perspective.
May be try telling your husband how it REALLY feels to suffer from depression.
My doctor also told that you've really got to want to get better. Lots of people with depression don't truly want to get better - happy to blame all their problems on their depression, easy way out.
These things worked for me. Keep going, don't give up, you can beat it!!

See depression treatments, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris in section 2. MAINTAIN the core treatments, and give the EFT a good tryout, and try the herbal remedies. Are you taking Omega 3 fish oil supplements? ALWAYS MAINTAIN THEM! Cognitive Behavioural therapy, or Rational Emotive therapy suit depression treatment: examine the 1-800-therapist website, and use the locators in section 1, (read it all) and the phone book, to find such a therapist. If not considerably improved after a couple of months (unlikely), consider trying the Lithium Orotate, enhanced with Folic acid (see section 10) for several weeks. There are many kinds of antidepressants, and various brands, and strengths: you may need a combination of types: let's hope not!!!. The last resort is electrical stimulation techniques, but I'd try the low current ones first, before attending a clinic (I'd make provision against partial memory loss first: recording all vital info (bank a/c., etc.) in a diary).

Depression is due self centred nature. The best way to beat depression is not medicine ,but cultivate friendship, build social relations and your mind is kept fully preoccupied always. If you do not react with external world ,you will become alone and you fight with you. This creates depression. You must have a social life. You learn some hobby, develop reading or writing habit.Try to understand why others are deserting you.Have an open discussion with your partner.Sort out issues.Be happy.Good Luck

For a start off you have to stop beating yourself up so much, what has happened in the past has happened, you have to move on and look forward now, try to motivate yourself as much as you possibly can, don't just sit around thinking about what affects you, keep busy, join a gym or try one of the self help groups, both are great for helping with depression, good luck.

You might try getting help with relationship building. Many times depression is caused by problem relationships. If that doesn't help, Electric Convulsive Therapy has been shown to help people who have tried everything else. One time might do it.

Hi,
My friend , I suggest: Any time you feel yourself in a depressed and unhappy state, immediately get up and get out to help the world in any way you can. And as you make helping others a part of your everyday life, any feelings of depression and unhappiness will appear less and less and less...and feelings of joy, gratitude and all good things will appear more and more and more. It works every time.
Be Positive
