If we dwell IN HIM there is no darkness....darkness is everywhere else outside of Him. Light is symbolic of knowledge and understanding, of purity and hope. Darkness symbolizes confusion, strife and ignorance and folly. Psalms 18:11 speaks of the Resurrection of Christ as most of the Psalms are actually the words or thoughts of Christ while He dwells on this earth set in poetry. IN HIM is nothing but light and glory and that is what He is the God of...darkness flees before Him...
Don't you know that darkness is the absence of light? Darkness has no real substance but is anti-substance. There is without and within....to have and to have not. Look at the language and word usage and realize there are no contradictions. Love in Christ, ~J~

Friend you need to know how to understand scriptures, Let's make this a litlle more simplier for you, God is Light, Or we can say God is Truth, If we walk in light(TRUTH) we have fellowship with one another. But just to say God is light only then you leave him out of the picture as to who created the darkness of space, There is your darkness that you want to try to say God is Dark,

There is no contradiction. Depending on the context in which it was said, the meaning is
1. God's light burns so bright that no man can see it and live - you would be instantly burned up and because No man can approach that light and live, God must shroud it in "darkness" - the pillar of cloud - for us to get anywhere near it.
or
2. It is poetic language describing our lack of understanding of God and his ways - it's as if he is "hidden by dark clouds"...
or
3. God is good, there is no evil in him: "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all "
As with anything - context is everything and context determines the meaning!

If you read the Bible as a dry, legalistic textbook it will never make any sense to you - full of contradictions, inconsistencies, confusion and doubts.
But when you interpret the Word of God with the Spirit of God in your heart - the Bible is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword able to discern truth and freedom and peace and hope and love and joy; to separate bone from marrow, soul from spirit.
I can tell by your question you will never experience His word in this way - but I will pray for you nonetheless!

He is a God with Light, but He is also more than that. If He did not obscure Himself behind the Darkness, then we would all be blinded by an all encompassing Light.

If you had the decency to read the Bible in context rather than quote verses out of context you would find that there are no contradictions.
If you choose verses in isolation you can make the Bible say anything you want (unfortunately some Christians also do this).

God gave the ultimate message, His son, follow his teachings; when you look to contradict God, you are placing yourself above him; you can't explain you nor the universe, everything works in harmony without the hand of man ; there is no contradiction , just lack of trust and understanding; God provides for you all that you need; you didn't start your own heart to beat nor your lungs to breathe ; you didn't do , you were done. You can't figure out God who created everything that you can't understand or comprehend. The universe was here long before you and after you as well.

Meanings are very clear.
God is a perfect light.
To hide him from the people he has exalted him to the high heaven which has thick curtains of skies causing barricade of vision from us to him so it is dark.

You will always find contradictions because the Books were altered by man, there's a million and one "Bibles" out there....
The only Scripture that has never been altered since it was Divinely Revealed is the Holy Quran...proven fact
Also, no matter what Quran you read anywhere in the world, down to the letter is identical to the next one...and not once does it contradict itself, it makes sense as both a textbook and a Book of Scripture...Please read the following, I have read the Bible so it is not much to ask you to simply read:
We took the Covenant of the Children of Israel and sent them Messengers. Every time there came to them a Messenger with what they themselves desired not,― some (of these) they called impostors, and some they (go so far as to) slay. (70) They thought there would be no trial (or punishment); so they became blind and deaf: yet Allah (in mercy) turned to them: yet again many of them became blind and deaf. But Allah sees well all that they do. (71) They do blaspheme who say: "Allah is Christ the son of Mary." But said Christ: "O children of Israel! worship Allah, my Lord, and your Lord." Whoever joins other gods with Allah―Allah will forbid him the Garden and the Fire will be his abode. There will for the wrong-doers be no one to help. (72) They disbelieve who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity: for there is no god except One God. If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them. (73) Why turn they not to Allah and seek His forgiveness? For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (74) Christ the son of Mary was no more than an Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how Allah doth makes His Signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth! (75) Qur'an Al-Maeda 5:70 - 75
Please explain why I get a thumbs down....I simply state facts backed with the same beliefs as you....only difference God did not have a son!
