At some point "most misused" becomes the "standard use". That is how languages change over time--variation becomes standard leading to new variations and new standard. At one point in my lifetime, the use of "will" and "shall" was strictly described, but now "will" has completely overwhelmed "shall" as the only future marker (except in legal documents).

Not really a misuse but further to an earlier post on common mistakes, I would like to add:
"your" vs. "you're"
"its" vs; "it's"
Use of the apostrophe in plurals is also quite alarming. Books such as "Eats, shoots and leaves" try to set the record straight, but it may already be a lost cause.

In my opinion the word "jealous" is misused a lot to mean "envious".

the word that stands out for me. Hieroglyphs. Newspapers, film and other print mistakenly call the characters hieroglyphics. Prof. Bob Brier set me straight many yrs ago.

Basically, I think it's basically.
It is run a close second by "blatant(ly) which, when used in the sense of "obvious(ly) is blatantly wrong.
"Safe", "wicked", and "jokes" (a.k.a jkz), used in their modern "acceptations" also vie for the position.

without any doubt "love ". Everybody "loves", but I see little of it. The test of love is not romantic evenings, but staying faithful in age and ill fortune.
