I had a pap smear done on tuesday night last week and I live right outside a big city in a pretty busy area. However, my gyno is located at a medical building next to a hospital. I am wondering if something waws wrong with my pap results do you think I would have been notified by phone by now? My doctors policy is to call if something is wrong. Please those who have had experience with this or those hwo have had abnormal results and how long it took for your doctor to notify you? Do you think I can ease my mind thatI would have been notified by now?

So, this was six days ago...results might not be back yet, but if you are concerned, call your doctor's office and they should be able to tell you.

Having worked in a gyn office for years, here is how the chain goes.
the doctor takes the samples, the nurse labels it and gets it ready to send to the lab, the lab driver picks it up, along with the hundreds of others on his route, the lab gets the samples and records it, then does the tests, the tests are then set for a small amount of time so the pathologist can look at them, Then the pathologist will record his findings, then, the records are revisited and your results marked, then, the results are sent to the doctors office, where your chart must be pulled and given to the nurse, who probably has tons of other ladies charts to go through and recorded, then the chart and test results go to the doctor, who will review the results and sign off, then, the doctor will either fill out the card, or phone you. If a card is sent, it must be posted and mailed.
Allowing 7 to 10 business days is about the norm in most cities.
If a test is read as abnormal, the pathologist will send the information to the doctor, and be advised then to either do another test to determine the level of abnormality, and once again the wait is about the same, sometimes longer, depending on the tests ordered to be redone.

If something was wrong then they wold notify you right away ! A doctors office wouldn't wait or put something off like that ! Your worrying to much ! If it makes you feel better then call them and ask then for your results!!! If they haven't called you then I would say that is Good thing !! I get a letter in the mail after i have one, it takes a while but they do send it, and its neg! if something was wrong i'm sure they 'd call me right away!! You should have a drs office you can trust that would call you! Cancer is serious and spreads fast so they wouldn't put off calling you I;m sure !! Good Luck ! and go ahead and call as soon as you can so you will know for sure and not worry anymore!!

I've always (20 years) received my pap results via the mail even when I had a bad result. If you are worried, call your doctor's office. Even if you are not worried, call them.
