I am NOT a cook. I only know how to cook a few simple things and I can follow instructions on a box. But I have two steaks in the freezer and I really don't know what to do with them. PLEASE give me some (easy) suggestions.

Melanie - your "marinade" sounds like a good suggestion... but as a novice, I don't know how to cook it after that. Bake it in the oven? How long? What temp? Or fry it in a pan?

I know, pretty sad, but I didn't grow up with a cook in the house. We lived on take out, sloppy joes, spaghetti and tuna casserole... and maybe a pork chop every now and then.

I love marinades, unfortunatly my husband doesn't,lol. When I'm fixing him a steak I just use a bottle of Zesty Italian Salad Dressing. Put your steaks in a bowl, pour this over them making sure they are covered and let them sit in the fridge all day till you are ready to cook. The oil in the dressing makes the steaks tender and juicy and gives it a great flavor. Simple enough for anyone to do.

Thaw a day or so in the fridge.

Season thawed steaks w/ kosher salt (tastes better than regular ol' table salt) and freshly cracked black pepper. A dash of garlic powder is nice if you like it.

Set your BBQ pit or cast iron grill pan or cast iron skillet on HIGH. Get grill or pan screaming hot. Slap the seasoned side of the steak down in the hot pan. Do not move it, just let it sear. Season the second side while in the pan, same as before. Depending upon thickness and how well-done you like them cooked, cook 4-6 min. per side.

Using tongs (not a fork), flip the steaks when you see about a ¼" of brown coming up the side (if you like them med-rare, longer if you want them cooked more). Do not move again, but let sear. Let sear another 4-6 min then remove to a plate, cover w/ foil, and let sit about 10 min before serving. This will ensure a juicy steak.

Comforting Cube Steaks
4 (4 ounce) cube steaks
1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning, or to taste
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage
2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (1 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix

DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Season the steaks on both sides with Cajun seasoning and black pepper. Place the steaks into the prepared baking dish. Pour the lemon-lime beverage over them. Combine the cream of mushroom soup and dry onion soup mix, and pour over the steaks.
Bake, uncovered, for about 1 hour, or until meat reaches desired doneness. Do not open the oven door during the first hour of cooking. Serve steaks with gravy spooned over.
