Where can I camp in NC? I want to drive to the campsite and set up while my friends hike there. I need a campsite that accommodates cars and hikers.

Look at a state map to find out how far you want to drive.

I like a place called "Mile High Campground" which is located in the corner of the Cherokee Reservation. Google it. There are plenty of various trails all over the place. And the campground has an outstanding view of the valley below with gorgeous sunsets. And hot showers, which is important to me. And it's quiet at night, and cool in the summer, since it's a mile high.

But since you didn't say where you live and how far you want to go to camp, that might be too far for you. Personally, I think that there are only two good places to camp, in the mountains or on the ocean islands.

I only camp where I can somehow bathe, either in the summer in a river, or later on where there are hot showers, and N.C.state parks don't have showers. Only some private ones, like Mile High Campground have hot showers. I know that some federal parks and parks in some other states have them though.

This place also quite well accomodates cars. Here's the link to the site: http://hikingthecarolinas.com/camping.php

I do need to say that I have no financial or other interests in this place other than having camped there about 3 times.

Morrow Mountain state park is a pretty good place. Albemarle is the closest town, and it is fairly small ( < 30000 people). It is accessible from highways 24/27, 73 and 740.

Full directions are on the first site below, and the second site is a listing of all the state parks in NC.

Good Luck
