The classic symptoms, thirst and over urinating are when you know you have it. There are many symptoms that can happen before. Everyone is different. My step father only had symptoms of numb feet, and one summer he was thirsty all the time. A few years later he was diagnosis with type II.
I had vague symptoms for years. Chronic fatigue, frequent flu like symptoms, couldn't lose weight, just generally felt blah. If you have diabetes in your family line. You don't have to be obese, just being overweight. I had extra lbs but my doctors never thought it was a problem. They were wrong.
I had symptoms starting at 25 yrs old and was diagnosed at 30.
Older people don't even have to have had any weight problems to get it. I think some of it has to do with our food supply. Most of it is junk and the food manufacture-res are slowly killing us.
Ask your doctor for a three month average of your blood glucose level. And believe me from experience, the numbers don't always tell. Again, it took 5 years for me to be diagnosed. Five years I could have done something if I knew.

I was diagnosed when I was 11.
I was going to the bathroom about once an hour sometimes and drinking LOTS of fluids. I felt tired a lot and had bad headaches.
It's very easy for anyone to get a quick test done. It's virtually painless (one very quick finger stick), and very fast. If your blood sugar reads much over 100, you should have more testing done. A normal reading is around 80-90 for a non diabetic, however, it can range slightly higher if you've just eaten.
Beware also of hypoglycemia - LOW blood sugar. If your blood sugar is below 70 and you get shaky when you don't eat, you may have hypoglycemia.

Befor I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in June this year I was peeing a lot, allways drinking,I didnt want to eat as I was so bloated from drinking water,I used to feel dizzy, felt tired all the time but had trouble sleeping due to wanting to pee I also lost a stone in weight.
In fact at one point Iwas having such bad dizzy spells I felt like I was going to die .I know that sounds so dramatic but thats how I felt.
I never did complain to any one as I felt like I was beeing a drama queen. I even caried on going to work even tho i didnt feel like it.
I had had a bad virus 2 mounths b4 I was told I was a diabetic and I think that was my trigger. I was very lucky I was having blood tests done any way and the nurse decided to do a random suger on me and it came back high so I had fasting ones that came back even higher for some reason lol.
It was so confussing for me as no one was sure wich type I was .As a result of this I was admited to hospial for a week and was used as a pin cushion lol. I was put first on tablets but they didnt work so it was injection time for me, but I didnt mind as after my first few jabs I was feeling so gr8 and back to my good old self.
I am feeling so much better in my self and I have done what the doctors told me was impossible I have gone back to working nights in a busy care home.
Good luck with every thing.
Sorry this is so long but I thought if u heard my story it might help things click more than just a list of symptoms.

I found before I was diagnosed, I had an insatiable appetite but did not gain any weight. I was SO thirsty all the time and I was going to the washroom many times an hour. My vision was blurry and I was extremely tired all the time! My sugars were so high that blood was in my urine. I was nine years old at the time.

You can't know without testing. The ADA standards are fasting glucose of >126 more than twice or 2hr OGTT >200. Only your doctor can tell for sure.
Some of the signs are increase urination and thirst. Dry skin , night itches. Wounds that don't heal. But you may not have any sign or symptoms .The ADA recommends that any one over 45yrs, old should be tested.
If you have concerns bring it up with you doctor; don't wait for him to bring it up. Be safe, not sorry!

Some people never feel much except being tired and when they go to the doctor, they find out to their surprise that their blood sugar is elevated. If you see the doctor and have blood drawn, usually the blood sugar is checked when one of the chemistries are done. If you feel that you have a chance of having it, it runs in your family or you are just feeling run down, just get a simple blood test done. He may want to take it further with more testing but at least you will know.

The suggestions are correct but non emphasized. The longer to put off being diagnosed and treated the more damage diabetes can do to the rest of your body. Uncontrolled diabetes damages your kidneys, eyes, circulations system, heart and nerves.

The doctor will test your blood sugar levels to confirm if you have it. Some of the symptoms are;
Drinking more than usual
Needing to pee all the time.
Irritability when haven't eaten for a while.
Tired.
The best way to find out is to visit the Nhs direct website where they can advise you.

The most common symptoms are tiredness, thirst and polyuria ( urinary frequency.) However initial presentations can be more unusual for example impotence or visual problems.
