I was just wondering why is seems like vegetarians are most often girls. Is there anything wrong if a boy is( much less a teenage boy)?? Just one of those questions. I dont think so.

Real men like to kill their food with extreme prejudice before eating it raw whereas the kinder gentler woman prefer those animals as pets

(That does some somewhat ridiculous doesn't it)

Among the vegetarians I know personally, there are only slightly more women & girls than men & boys. Maybe in some areas one sex is "veggier" than the other b/c of stereotypes-- guys might be afraid that they're not men if they don't eat what all the other men eat.
When I think about famous vegetarians, more men than women come to mind. Last time I checked, both Tobey Maguire & Christian Bale were still vegetarian. Spiderman *and* Batman. Wow ;-)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a teenage guy being vegetarian. I think there is a perception that most vegetarians are girls; I believe this is just because girls like to talk about these things, and boys are usually not. There is also a "macho" image that boys/men try to evoke (it's not "un-macho" being a vegatarian), so there is a bit of a stigma if a guy comes out and says, "I'm vegetarian". So, don't go with the consensus. If you feel better being vegetarian, more power to you!

No, there is nothing wrong with a boy being a vegetarian, and it has NOTHING to do with sexuality. All the vegetarian men I know (quite a few, actually) are straight.

Anyway.. maybe the reason that more girls are is because women can tend to be more compassionate and have stronger feelings about animals (or not as afraid to discuss liking animals and feelig sorry for them), are more concerned about their weight.

Normally, it's a good thing, the younger you start it, the better. And vegetarian girls would rather date vegetarian boys and not have problems over what to order or what to prepare for dinner together.

That's not true at all. Gender has nothing to do with vegetarianism. I am a man and a vegetarian. I think many vegetarian men are reticent with their vegetarianism (for that matter, we men are reticent on most things unless someone asks us about it) because of society's negative attitudes and stereotypes. The first moron who answered illustrates that. Homosexual? I'm as straight as can be. I actually think it's gay to salivate over dead animal pieces for dinner.

For some odd reason I cannot fathom, society (both men and women) equate masculinity with being an arrogant, insensitive brute.

PS: How DO you manage to look after 16 rottweilers?! I looked at your profile.

My boyfriend is a vegetarian, a few of my male teachers in highschool were, and a few of my male teenage friends are.
Dont let society keep you from doing what you know is right.

The difference in numbers isn't at all significant as you seem to think it is.

I'm male and vegan, what makes you think that men are less likely to care about the suffering of animals.

Possibly, male vegetarians don't tell everyone and their mom because they are more likely to get sh*t from ignorant @ssholes for it.

I know plenty of guys that are vegetarian. Guys just don't talk about it as much as females do.

Because eating meat is the "manly" thing to do in our culture. My boyfriend is a vegan, like me, although we're not really teenagers, we're in college. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with him. ; )

I also think girls tend to be more compassionate.

(Sorry, just my opinion.)
