Vegetarians don't eat any meat.
Vegans don't eat any meat, + they don't eat any animal products, such as milk (and therefore cheese, yogurt, sour cream or chocolate containing milk, or cookies containing milk), eggs (and therefore no cookies containing eggs), honey (and therefore no sweets containing honey). Also, no gelatin as it includes animal something - and this can also go for vegetarians as a no-no.
Depends on how strict you want to be. Thus, vegans can also refuse to wear any leather clothes, or animal fur coats.
Some medicines may contain extracts of animal something, such as those fish oil supplements of Vitamin E - and well, vegans as well as vegetarians will refuse such a product.

Veganism (also strict or pure vegetarianism) is a philosophy and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animal derived products for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Vegans do not use or consume animal products of any kind.
Vegetarianism is the practice of a diet that excludes all animal flesh, including poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, and slaughter by-products. There are variations that admit dairy products, eggs and/or products from animal labor such as honey.

The word "vegetarian" is a generic blanket term used to describe anybody who does not eat meat, poultry, fish, or seafood. This encompasses vegans and also the various vegetarian sub-groups. Vegetarians are generally those people who have chosen a diet with far less restrictions than those chosen by a vegan.

Vegetarians don't eat meat. (Although some of them eat fish and even chicken and continue to claim "vegetarianism")
Vegans don't eat meat, milk, eggs, anything containing animal products, don't wear silk, leather, fur, or wool, buy products from companies that conduct non-required animal toxicity tests, or visit zoos, circuses, rodeos, or other places of "entertainment" where animals are held in captivity or forced to perform.

Vegans and vegetarians are a world apart. By definition, vegetarians are those individuals that do not eat any meat products, they will however, eat dairy products and eggs. Vegans on the other hand, do not consume any animal products at all!

Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, or poultry. Vegans, in addition to being vegetarian, do not use other animal products and by-products such as eggs, dairy products, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics, and soaps derived from animal products.
