I think your friend meant HPV (human papillomavirus) shot, not HIV.

Gardasil is a vaccine for HPV. It protects women from four different kinds of HPV. Two of those kinds are known to cause about 70% of cervical cancer cases and the other two kinds are known to cause about 90% of genital wart cases.

Just because a woman has gotten the HPV vaccine though, doesn't mean she should have unprotected sex. There are over 30 sexually transmitted kinds of HPV and the vaccine only protects against 4 of those kinds. It's still possible to contract any of the other kinds of HPV that the vaccine doesn't protect against (as well as other STDs out there).

Take care!

If she got her HIV shot then it is most likely she already has the disease and is trying to treat it. Simply put, there is no current vaccine or cure for HIV otherwise we would have heard about it in the news as a medical breakthrough. It would be a very bad idea to have unprotected sex with someone who is HIV positive - you WILL contract the disease.

She might have said/meant HPV shot which is completely different. Prevents the sexually transmitted form of the human papillomavirus which I think includes some types of warts and makes it less likely to get cervical cancer since most cases of cervical cancer seem to be directly related to contracting HPV. There is no shot for HIV.

Your friend got the h _P_ v shot, not the h _ I _ v shot.

HPV shots protect you against some forms of a virus linked to, among other things, cervical cancer.

It has no impact on HIV transmission.

Ummm...your friend is gonna die. One there's nothing to prevent HIV, sorry, and even if there was it can only be in experimental stages at this time and I wouldn't wanna take a chance on it being 1000% effective. Yes, I meant 1000%, screw relying on 100% when talking about AIDS.

Uhm there's no HIV shot.

She's prolly thinking of the HPV shot.
Not the same thing.

Don't have sex w/ someone who has HIV...there's really no safe way around it.

There isn't.
She may have gotten one of the new shots that protect against HPV, or human papilloma virus [ genital warts ], which can cause cervical cancer.
It ONLY protects against some forms of HPV, and NOTHING ELSE. There are other kinds of HPVs as well.
Please tell your friend, and everyone else, they are not safe from HIV!
