Vegetarians DO NOT eat fish.

Vegetarians do not eat animals.

Clams, shrimp, scallops, worms, ants and fish are all animals.

Meat is only a small group of protein sources out of thousands.

Protein isnt as big a deal as people make it out to be but yes its a very relevant question.
You go ahead and eat fish if thats what you want to do, I stopped 'cos I realised that there can be no and ifs or buts, either I believed this or I didnt. Full stop.
Be careful with high fat proteins such as cheese and nuts. For lunch today I had shortgrain brown rice mixed with green lentils and fried mushroom slices. - Fantastic.
Tofu is great (when you know how)(please learn good recipes 'cos some will make your head spin)
Quorn is cool, TVP (textured soy protein) and wheat protein.
I love Kashi cereal and stonyfield soy yoghurt both with 10mg and 7mg of protein. - will you eat eggs too?
If you are eating eggs also you really wont have any issues with protein.

First of all, you are not a vegetarian if you eat fish, but at least its something, giving up meat.

There are plenty of substitute meats such as the Quorn brand which often have more protein than actual meat. Also make sure you get enough of other minerals that you normally get from meat, so eat leafy green veg (iron) bananas (vitamin B12) and pulses - lentils etc (more protein)

To the vegetarians who want to tell people they are not a vegetarian because they eat fish: a pesco vegetarian is a type of vegetarian. Understand that it is used more to describe oneself to the general meat-eating population and not to take away from your sacrifice as someone who doesnt eat any type of meat. Anyway, on the topic- it is important to get protein from as many different sources as you can because many of them have different types of amino acids. generally a good combination of nuts, beans and legumes in a pesco diet should be just fine. generally most meat substitutes are made largely of these groups. the best rule is to make sure you get a variety in your diet. You will see health places the perscribe 100 g or more per day of protien, these are vanity body building numbers- the reality is that you need much less than that and you should probably be aiming for somewhere around 30-50 g per day for a healthy life style. Start reading lables to get a feel for how much is in the food you are already eating.

if you still eat fish you are not a vegetarian by any standards. if you are eating fish you do not need to worry about protein because you will still be eating meat.

Vegetarian—There are several categories of vegetarians, all of whom avoid meat and/or animal products. The vegan or total vegetarian diet includes only foods from plants: fruits, vegetables, legumes (dried beans and peas), grains, seeds, and nuts. The lactovegetarian diet includes plant foods plus cheese and other dairy products. The ovo-lactovegetarian (or lacto-ovovege-tarian) diet also includes eggs. Semi-vegetarians do not eat red meat but include chicken and fish with plant foods, dairy products, and eggs.

fish is meat, so if you're eating fish, you need no substitute

and please don't call yoruself a vegetarian. Eliminating all meat from your diet except fish is great, but it does not fit the definition of "vegetarian."

unless you eat no dead animal, you won't be a vegetarian!
