HI
I am a 55 year old male, I suffered a heart attack in June 2007, I had a stent fitted, and upon my discharge from hospital I was perscribed Metoprolol 12.5mg twice a day.
After a period of about 6-8 weeks my blood pressure was still high, (160/100) constant, so my Metoprolol was increased to 25mg twice a day.
I have been on this dosage now for about 10 weeks, My bp is down to around 115/72-120/80- with my heart rate at around 53-55bpm.
Thing is I have no energy at all, I have a terrible job getting out of bed in the mornings and quite often lie in bed till 11 oclock, this is not like me, I used to always be up and dressed by 8am every day.
I dont know if I feel depressed or lethatgic, but I find it very difficult to get motivated to do anything if you know what I mean.
I do suffer from depression and have done for the past 15 years. I take Mirtazapine and Prozac for that.
Thing is I am wondering if I am taking too much Metropolol, as I feel very tired indeed.

I am taking the same 25mg BID and my heart rate is about the same as yours. Don't think the Metaprolol is causing your problem, maybe it's the other med's or have Dr. do a TSH for hypothyroid condition. Good Luck.

You should tell your doctor, there are other beta blockers out there besides metoprolol that can help. There is no reason for you to be suffering like this when there is a simple solution.

Lack of energy and depression are quite common side effects of medication, and your drug may have these side effects too. You should speak to your GP or cardiologist,. whichever prescribed the drug.
