It's possible that you gave it to her, but it's also possible she contracted it from a previous partner.

HPV can take several months and even years to show up sometimes. Most people don't have any signs or symptoms and are unaware they even have it. There is also no test to detect HPV in men, so it's almost impossible for men to know if they have HPV (unless they develop genital warts). So, even if you have never had any symptoms of it, it's possible you have the virus and gave it to her. But, it's also possible she contracted it from a previous partner and is just now staring to show signs of it.

Also, having HPV won't cause a woman to lose her period. Pregnancy can cause a woman to lose her period and her losing weight or not weighing very much can cause a woman to lose her period. Women have to have a certain amount of body fat in order for them to have their period. This is why young girls who are overweight tend to get their periods at a young age (like 11, 12, 13 years old). Girls who are naturally thin or have an athletic kind of build might not get their period till they are 15, 16, or even older. If a woman gets her period, and then loses it, it's called secondary amenorrhea.

First thing:
There are two forms of HPV
1. Low strain that is genital warts that can be treated with topical medications. However, the HPV does not go away.
2. The high strain that can cause things such as cervical cancer.

You need to find out which one she has and go from there.

Second:
HPV can be passed with protected and/or unprotected sex. However it is better to always use protection. HPV normally comes about from having sex with multiple partners or having sex with someone that has had multiple partners.

Third:
If you do have it there is no test that is out there for men to take to find out if they do have it. If you do have it, it does not effect most men. In rare cases men have developed penial cancer, but the percentage is really low in the single digits.

Fourth:
Once you have HPV, you have it. There are no medications for it or anything that can be used to get rid of it. If you are a young woman and not had sex you can use the Girdasil vaccine to help you prevent from getting it. However, not even this is 100%. The only thing that you can do is build your immune system with vitamins, eating better and getting plenty of rest. Also, stress wears on the immune system hard, so it is best to try to simplify your life and learn to breathe.

Also, it can be in your system for sometime and you do not even know it. Once you do know, you should go to the gyno and get a pap smear every 6 months. If you test positive every time that means you have to keep working on your immune system. Eventually, you will go and get a pap smear and it will come back negative.

Fifth:
The stats on HPV are as quoted from the Planned Parenthood site, is that 80% of the sexually active community has this. So even though it is high, it is not all bad news. Since she has caught her HPV at an early stage, hopefully, then she should be able to treat this and be able to have a normal life. I know it is overwhelming and scarey when you first find out.

HPV can cause cervical cancer, however simply having HPV does not mean that you are going to develop cancer. Most people do not. There are tests that can be done to see how the HPV has progressed that the doctor can do and be able to take it from there and suggest a treatment plan.

And lastly.....
There is a lot online about this. Stick to well known sites and not personal ones. I find that a lot of personal ones overexagerate the issue at times and are more emotional. This is the last thing your girlfriend needs. You can find out a lot online, just be careful.

Oh and before I forget, HPV does not cause a loss of a period, that would have more to do with several other things that her doctor should look into. It can be as simple as being stressed out or something more complex that only a doctor would be able to test and diagnose. So get her to her to her doctor's for that as well. If the doctor is the one saying this is the reason for her loss of period, get a second opinion.

Genital warts are hyperplastic, sometimes pedunculated lesions of the skin or mucous membranes of the genitals caused by human papillomaviruses (HPVs). Some HPV types cause flat endocervical or anal lesions that are precancerous. Diagnosis is clinical. Multiple treatments exist, but few are highly effective. Genital warts may resolve without treatment in immunocompetent patients but may persist and spread in patients with decreased cell-mediated immunity (eg, HIV infection).
HPV infection around the genitals is common, although most people have no symptoms. Even if you do NOT have symptoms, however, you must be treated to avoid complications and spreading the condition to others.

The only way to tell if one of you gave it to the other is if one of you never had sex with anyone else before your relationship.
Because Hpv can lay dormant for years before you start showing symptoms.
And since your girlfriend has it you need to see a doctor yourself for testing and possible treatment.
When you go to your appointment make sure you tell your doctor your girlfriend has Hpv and that's why you made the appointment.

WTF? HPV doesnt cause a lost period. HPV is a virus that you get when you have unprotected sex. Anybody who has had unprotected sex most likely has it. It is a ot more common than you think and its not that freaky. Especialy these days with a new vaccine called Gardasil. She needs to get that, I have 'HPV' and I have gotten the vaccine. It can sometimes cause gential warts, which is only if you contract those certain strains of HPV. I dont have them thank god, but there are like.... a couple medications for those, i think.

Hpv is undetectable in men.
so you most likely have it yourself.
no not everyone that has unprotected sex gets it.
but you;d be surprised ow many people do.
it is uncomfortable. and a big damper on things,
i personally dont have it. but i know people that do.
they can give you medication for it.. but Hpv does cause cervical cancer in women. if shes been to a doctor she should be okayy.
but you on the other hand need to get checked and be careful who yr having sex with and what you could potentially give them.

&& Hpv doesnt affect her period. unless they gave her the depo shot. which can affect it. most doctors suggest depo which is a birthcontrol that you dont have but a few periods when you are on it.

EDIT: it is detectable in men but not until after a girl complains and finds that she has it... then they can do test and find it... but most guys dont even realize they have it until they give it to a girl.

HPV is a sexually transmitted virus, it does not stop periods. Males are often carriers without any apparent lesions, but you should have an exam to see if you might have small wart like bumps on your genital area. Also your girlfriend should talk to her doctor about not having her period
