There really is no way to completely prevent them. Taking anti-viral medication helps, trying to limit stress or anxiety in your life will help, avoiding certain foods like nuts or chocolate which may trigger an outbreak can help. But, nothing is truly 100% effective in preventing an outbreak.

The longer a person has genital herpes also helps. People with genital herpes tend to get fewer and fewer outbreaks as the years pass. I have personally had genital herpes for 7 years and the first few years were the worst for me. I had about 5 outbreaks within the first 2 years, but then they started decreasing. It's been over 2 years since my last outbreak (luckily).

You'll just have to learn what triggers outbreaks for you. Don't worry, it'll get better! Good luck!

It may sound strange, but avoid chocolates and chocolate products, caffeine, nuts, raisins etc. while you are experiencing a breakout. The herpes virus is made up of proteins rich in the amino acid L-argenine. So avoid foods rich in this amino acid, and like it has been mentioned, really increase your intake of L-lysine. Taking 1000 mg pills of L-lysine will sometimes stop to an outbreak that is imminent in its tracks, that is, when you feel the throbbing tingly itch but no rash has occurred. I would avoid acyclovir or vacyclovir if at all possible as it does quite a number on your liver.

The only triggers for me are being over tired and run down and catching a cold or the flu. So eat healthily and get plenty of sleep, and avoid people with colds like the plague :-) (there is a reason oral herpes is known as 'cold sores' or 'fever blisters'- onviously cos you always get an outbreak when you have a cold or fever.)

I had herpes type 2 about six years back, when I was still in college and had a stupid one night stand. I am sure many of girls will say this but believe me I never did that sort of thing. I just made a mistake that one time and, suddenly, it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The awful part was feeling I could never meet men again. After all, who wants to date a person who has sores around her you-know-what? But after somebody shared this video https://tr.im/SClOA everything has changed. Not only was I able to remove all traces of the herpes virus from my body in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so happy to say that just last week, in fornt of everyone in a restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This program gave me the chance to be happy again, and to experience true love.

valtrax can help prevent outbreaks but its not really recommended for daily use.

personally its been almost 2 years since my first outbreak and ive only had 2 outbreaks.

when i had spoken with my OBGYN she had told me that the longer i have herpes the easier it will be to deal with and that outbreaks will happen less and less periodically- possibly to where they wont occur anymore.
