If you have a nasal discharge that is clear, it usually means you are safe at that time from infection, if you have a discharge that is colored, dark yellow, green, etc., it usually indicates you have a bacterial infection of some kind, and if you are running a temp with it, probably good idea to go to your family Dr. and let him decide if it is bacterial (such as strep) or a virus.

Green snot usually signals one of two things. If it is first thing in the morning, it could signal that the snot has been there for a while. The second thing that it usually signals is that there is a bacterial infection. Your body is currently losing to an infection. It is time to call in reinforcements in the form of antibiotics. Good Luck, hope you feel better soon.

What color are you expecting? Mostly, the color is affected by air/intake... and not from the coal-mines of your nasal cavity. There's no difference, unless it's brown (signifiying too much smoke in your system). Or, more liquid of course, which means you have a runny nose/cold.
