why Insulin is given as Injection and not in form of oral drop or tablet?

Insulin can be a tablet in the case of Type 2 diabetics which means your pancreas still functions enough to process the pill into the blood stream. Juvenile or Type 1 diabetics do not have a functioning pancreas so injection is the only way to get the insuling into the blood stream as needed.

Insulin would be digested before it can get into the blood stream and do any good. The closest thing they have come up with is inhaled insulin and they are taking it off the market because it wasn't widely accepted and cost more to make than they sold. Insulin can only be injected so the body can absorb it and it can work in the blood. The oral medications are not insulin, they only encourage insulin production or help the insulin to work properly.

Parenteral Insulin

Insulin is a hormone (protein) which is highly instable and get denatured very easily. If it is taken orally it will be destroyed by various enzymes in the alimentary canal and denatured by temperature and the acid in our stomach before assimilation. Insulin will then not reach its destination and reduce blood sugar.

Injection of insulin in the blood path on the other hand ensures the breakdown of excess sugar in blood thereby reducing the diabetic condition immediately.

diabetes means high level of sugar in body. sugar is dissolved in blood during digestion.insulin controls the sugar as done by pancreas.pancreas become weak with diabetes so it needs help, insulin is injected into body for direct, immidiate effect. insulin is produced in direct way. insulin cannot be digested by stomach in the same way like food etc. for eg sugar in fruit dont effects much because it is digested in indirectly way(fructose). where as sugar is direct material it effects quickly.sugar has sucrose source. sucrose is direct&fructose is indirect. insulin can be taken orally can be possible in future. very hard 2 say.mind blowing q

insulin cannot be taken orally, because it gets digested when it enters the gut. so, the bioavailability with oral preparation is not up to the level to correct hyperglycemia.
so, when its given via parenteral route, it bypasses the gut and liver [the so called first pass effect] and will not get metabolised, and it reaches the desired level in the blood to lower the blood sugar level.
also, any drug given by parenteral route has quicker onset of action and the effect is produced in a short span of time.
this is very important for diabetics and that is why those people who can not control their blood sugar level with just diet and drugs[ oral], are prescribed insulin.

Insulin is easily broken down into amino acids and carbohydrate by our digestive system. Even if it is put into a gastric resistant capsule, in the intestine, it will be digested by enzymes from the pancreas. Therefore, insulin must be injected.

insulin is a protein hormone.when taken orally,it will be broken down into its constituent amino acids by the proteolytic enzymes secreted by our gastrointestinal tract.the constituent amino acids wont get reassembled to insulin.hence it wont serve its purpose
