Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

Herpes is a common viral infection. It causes oral herpes (cold sores or fever blisters), and genital herpes (genital sores or sores below the waist).

There are two herpes simplex viruses:
• Herpes Simplex Type 1 (HSV-1)
• Herpes Simplex Type 2 (HSV-2)

These viruses look identical under the microscope, and either type can infect the mouth or genitals. Most commonly, however, HSV-1 occurs above the waist, and HSV-2 below.

It IS possible to get genital herpes from cold sores.

Yes, very easily. In fact, you can also easily get it if someone who gets cold sores goes down on you when they do not have one, when they are 'in between', if you have never had cold sores yourself.

Even though everyone says genital hsv-1 - the kind you would normally get from oral sex - never recurrs, I haven't found this and I get about 6 outbreaks a year, even if they are mild.

As everyone has mentioned the answer is yes.

However, if you have already been infected with HSV-1 orally, your antibodies will protect against being infected with HSV-1 genitally. HSV-1 genital herpes results in a less painful initial outbreak and usually very few, if ANY, further outbreaks. However, there can be significant (though rare) complications of HSV-1 infections, so it is NOT less serious than HSV-2 genital infections.

Cold sores can cause genital herpes and vice versa.
HSV-1 can cause genital herpes through transmission during oral-genital sex, thus both strains of the virus may be transmitted by sexual contact.
