For a while...but more lately, i constantly have a dry mouth, needing the loo alot, and if i dont have something to eat for breakfast/dinner i get all shakey and weak. I also have constant water infections, but im tht used to them now i dont botha going to the doc for antibiotics,as it just comes and goes by itself.Last night was the worst i was needin a wee all the time and felt really sickly and dizzy. Dont wanna go to the docs for a blood test as will feel daft if it comes back negative lol

Probably.

Are you normal weight?

Do you eat a healthy low fat no junk food diet with lots of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains?

Do you get daily exercise?

If you answered no to the above and have all those symptoms, and don't want to go to the doctor, then get a glucose meter and check your blood yourself. Chances are it's well into the diabetic range. There's a handy chart here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glucose_tolerance_test

Now then, the longer you hold off about finding out, the more difficult it's going to be to manage. If I were you, I would go ahead and assume that you are diabetic and move on with your life. Being diabetic is not a death sentence. It's a wake up call that you need to learn to eat to live and stop living to eat. You also need to lose weight and exercise every day.

Poke around this category and read some of the previous answers. You'll get an idea that we diabetics can manage just fine with a little education and prudence.

Nausea, dizziness, and shakiness upon awakening sounds like hypoglycemia. I've had diabetes II for 18 years and still get those feelings after taking a nap. I had lost my health care for 4 years and had become rather ill. Now I am insulin dependent.
Don't wait to be tested, you have the signs and family history. Ask for the 3 month average I think it is called AC 1 test. Glucometers are only so accurate, for home use, and should not be used at your doctor's office for diagnostic testing.

If you are diagnosed as pre-diabetic take it as if you are diabetic. Read, talk to people with the illness, and be proactive. It took 5 years for my diagnosis because my symptoms were so vague and the test just didn't show it. That was back in the 1990's. You know your own body, don't give up. See a doctor, but one that has diabetes knowledge. Some internist are good but others only know the classic symptoms and are completely ignorant of early signs. It is a shame but a fact. Some doctors don't' know diddly about diabetes.

Without treatment, the main symptoms of diabetes are:
feeling very thirsty, producing excessive amounts of urine (going to the toilet a lot), andtiredness, weight loss and muscle wasting (loss of muscle bulk).Other symptoms can include:
itchiness around the vagina or penis, getting thrush regularly, due to the excess sugar in your urine encouraging infections, andblurred vision, caused by the lens of your eye becoming very dry.Symptoms of type 1 diabetes can develop quickly, usually over days or weeks.
If your blood glucose levels become too high, you can suffer a hyperglycaemic attack (excess of sugar and dehydration leading to weakness and possible convulsion). This can happen if you have not taken your insulin. The symptoms of a hyperglycaemic attack include dehydration, drowsiness and a frequent need to urinate. If left untreated, hyperglycaemia can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis, which can eventually cause unconsciousness and even death. Diabetic ketoacidosis occurs when your body begins to break down fats for energy instead of glucose, leading to a build up of ketone acids in your blood (see Selected links for more details).
If your glucose levels become too low you can suffer a hypoglycaemic attack (hypo). This can happen if you have taken too much insulin. Symptoms of a hypo include feeling shaky and irritable and can be brought under control by eating or drinking something sugary, such as a fizzy drink, sugar cubes or raisins, which should stop the attack. After having something sugary, you should then eat a longer-acting carbohydrate food such as a few biscuits or a sandwich.
Symptoms of type 2 diabetes usually develop over weeks or months. Some people with type 2 diabetes have few symptoms or even no symptoms at all. However, they still need to have treatment so that other health problems, such as kidney disease, do not develop later on.

I would advise you to visit your doctor just so you can be certain.

The longer you put off getting a checkup the more damage you do to the rest of your body. Diabetes is minor compared to the other problems diabetes causes. If you go to the doctor and find you don't have it you can celebrate and stop worrying. But your symptoms are classic diabetes and could be hurting other organs in you body until you get treated.

I think their is a good chance you may have diabetes. You should go to the doctor and find out before you end up in the ermergancy room. I know someone that just past out and he ended up in the ER room, so you never can be to careful. If it isn't diabetes, maybe the doctors can run some test to see whats causing you to be shaky and week.

It does sound a bit like it, so you should go to the doctor. If the test comes back negative, it's not daft. Instead it's a reason to be cheerful.

I have given you links to the Mayo Clinic web site for the signs and symptoms of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Either way it goes, you need to see a doctor, and there aren't any doctors who will think you're daft for checking. If you're already considered at risk and you are having symptoms, you need to get checked.

Diabetes is a killer, get checked and good luck to you.

It definitely sounds a bit like diabetes. If it were me, I'd go to the dr. and get tested just for peace of mind. If it's negative, at least you KNOW you're ok instead of just guessing. If it's positive, you can start treating it and taking care of yourself. You have 2 kids to consider when it comes to your health now. You need to take care of yourself for their sakes.
