It's no harder (and much healthier) to slice raw potato for the moussaka. And it's not moussaka without the ground, seasoned lamb and the bechamel sauce on top. The only thing that your dish has in common with moussaka is the eggplant. What you've got is hashed brown eggplant ricotta casserole.

Don't call a dish by it's name if you are not going to use the ingredients which gave that dish it's unique character. Mousakka without minced lamb is not mousakka. None of that "vegetarian version" bulls*it either. Call it by any other name. Julia Child and Simone "Simka" Beck once castigated a young chef when he said he will prepare Salade Nicoise with seared fresh tuna. Julia said, don't call it that since Salade Nicoise calls for canned tuna. And Julia Child and Simka Beck are icons in the culinary world..
