and also birth abnormalities, i'm kind of worried now when cooking and touching the cord even if it says to wash hands when finish using, what is the best thing to do? I purchase it a week ago and i just saw the warning on the cord, should i cover the cord with plastic or what should be the best thing i can do? Should i return the item? What suggestions do you have?

Wow that's so nice to know that someone else is worried about the same thing as me and my Mother was speaking about one week ago. My Mother said to me. Do you know that the home that you grew up in was painted with nothing but, lead paint and I said "no". That's great that we can speak on the same thing alot of the time. Return the thing to the store where you purchased it. I got
one a few weeks back and it was one of those "made in
China" cheapies-stated that lead was in the cord. I returned
it at once. It is unbelivable that this country of ours has allowed all that cheap, dangerous junk from China to be imported. Well, we are doing ourselves in for sure-if it keeps
up we will be a third worlder! BBB

I noticed this one Christmas while untangling lights where one can spend hours touching that cord..and it kind of freaked me out seeing how extension cords mostly all say this..
Maybe one could wrap it with tape like electrical tape to not worry. Also once a week eat a salsa homemade with cilantro or a pesto (see link) as this is supposed to cleanse us of heavy metals.
