what would happen when people expect him to act? like do something? or somebody from his group (i bet there are) approaches him and ask him to be more of an enlightened leader? you see, how he always laughs at almost anything...preaches tolerance, always the feel-good type...yet no action. but all the things he is saying- we could find it on inspirational books. why would he be any different from persons delivering motivational lectures on investment seminars?

I have seen H.H. several times and have always walked away with much respect for him and his teachings.
Sorry your experience was not the same.

He is certainly more progressive than the Pope, Billy Graham, the Greek Orthodox Patriarch or any other current head of a religious sect that I know about. He is extremely tolerant as his religion has been evicted from its cultural home by the Chinese government and he is not calling for militant retaliation, like many Islamists. Considering that he is actually advocating for world peace and goes out into the world to speak about it. I feel that he is doing the most that his position allows him to do. He has no power other than his ability to influence what others think. What did you expect him to do? He is a person.

Everyone in the public spotlight tends to be overated. There is a lot of hype out there. But the Dalai Lama does represent a lot of people, and is more deserving of attention, than a lot of celebrities and TV preachers. It is good to represent in this culture, a religious man who represents, an other than christian, religion.
