what you are describing are hypoglycemic episodes. You may have metabolic syndrome which is a precursor to diabetes. A finger poke is not a diffinative test for diabetes it is only a general indication. For a definite diagnosis you need a blood test called an A1C, or glycosylated hemoglobin. Talk to your doctor, and maybe see a nutritionist, could be your diet is far to high in carbohydrates and lacking in adequate protiens and nutrients.

Whether you test diabetic or not, as long as it's in the family, the best advice would be to act like you are a diabetic and get your dietary and exercise ducks in a row before it's too late.... if it isn't already. Get your weight down, eat a healthy, primarily raw vegetable diet with some fruits and whole grains, some fish or chicken breast, and forget about desserts unless it's an apple or blueberries. Stay the heck away from convenience foods. If you nip it in the bud now, it will pay huge dividends down the road. Trust me, I didn't heed the warnings, and ended up paying the price. On the other hand, becoming diabetic has taught me a great deal on nutrition and fitness. I can control it with minimum oral medication as long as I keep my weight down and eat right.
