I have a question about melting ice caps, recently i was doing research and i found some sites that have evidence the ice caps are actually growing. This would dissprove global warming right? But as i read on, some sites were trying to link global warming to GROWING ice caps. I think they would attribute anything to global warming just to make people believe. It's only a matter of time before they say global warming causes cancer. What does everyone else think?

How come they were melting before and growing now?

Sorry to say this but, an Inconvenient Truth was found by the high court in England to have eight major errors. One being the melting ice.

Global warming.
For millions of years, the earth warms up, the cools down, hence the ice age ect. Its going through a natural process, which it as done since it began. In a few hundred years, the earth will cool back down, then another ice age.
As for causing cancer, No it dont, the only thing that may cause cancer, (we all born with cancerous cells anway.) Is the Pollution, chemicals thats being pumped into the air, by all these big industrial companies. China being the worse culprit.
All we doing is speeding up the process of global warming.
So we just have to enjoy our time on this planet while we can.

The arctic ice cap, including the Polar Ocean sea ice and the Greenland Ice Cap, have certainly been diminishing. There is no doubt of this.
Antarctica is a more complex picture. In the short term (a few hundred years) global warming may lead to increased snow on the Antarctic continent. This may mitigate the acceleration of sea level rise as the world climate warms. It in no way invalidates the measured rise in average global temperature.

The British judge actually said the film was great. READ THE FULL DECISION (link below).
He was asked to ban it, and refused, saying:
"It is clear that the Defendant understandably formed the view that AIT was an outstanding film, and that schools should be enabled to show it to pupils."
"It is substantially founded upon scientific research and fact"
"Al Gore's presentation of the causes and likely effects of climate change in the film was broadly accurate."

Central Antarctica is cooling a bit now because of the ozone hole. And global warming is pushing moisture away from temperate latitudes (where the farms are, which is a problem) toward the equator and the poles. So Antarctica is getting more snow. But the fringes of Antarctica are melting, which is also a problem.
Global warming is real, and mostly caused by us. The scientific data proves that, which is why virtually all scientists in the world agree.

The article you read were probably pointing out individual glaciers that have shown a growing trend recently. And they were probably right; some of the world's glaciers are shrinking, some are growing, and some are doing nothing at all. What scientists mean when they talk about melting glaciers is that, worldwide, there is a clear and definite shrinking trend.
Glaciers are subject to largely variable local conditions, there are many factors affecting glacier growth and melt besides the global mean temperature. So the important thing to look at when assessing what glaciers, on average, are doing world wide, is to look for global trends, not regional trends in a single glacier.

Sea ice is melting in the Arctic but stable in the Antarctic Ocean. Land ice on Antarctica is growing.
Laxon studied the melting Arctic Sea and determined it was caused by dynamic forcings (wind and ocean currents) and not thermal or radiative forcings from global warming. The melting Arctic Sea is from regional climate and has happened before. The Northwest Passage opened in 1905 and 1944. More than 60 ships made the voyage during those years. No ship has made the voyage so far this year.
Yes, you are right, the alarmists are blaming everything on global warming. Their exaggerations show they are poor scientists who are just trying to scare people.

You are the only one saying global warming causes cancer. But there is evidence that warmer weather will bring more rain, and in cold places more snow so you could see some increases in ice cover.
At the moment the polar ice is melting at an alarming rate.

Mother Earth has been around for thousands of years. She has gone through many changes during that time. Floods, ice age etc. without mankind having anything to do with it. If, and that is a big if, there is global warming it may be just another thing Mother Earth is going to go through. One thing for sure, Mother Earth will be around for a long while yet.

there is a philosophy of you can research anything and find your answers to match your wishes. global warming is real. now, there are two northwest passages, (the first attempts for one killed many mariners) as a kid spending some years in Toronto there were outdoor rinks in school yards. these were not on concrete or pavement but in the playing Field and were operated and flooded by parents. also they were open mid December. this is from the early 60"s and you say the world is not warming.

Global warming is proceding so slowly (about 0.01 degrees per year) there's no way people can actually watch it happening. What they are seeing is a localised climate change and for every warming, there will be an equivalent cooling somewhere else.

What the experts are saying is that the average temperature of the earth (and its atmosphere) is rising. But in the short term there are certainly local and short term increases in temperature. Yes, they also say cancer incidence (specifically skin cancer) may increase because of the accompanying depletion of the ozone layer.
