I got a dog about a month ago. The dog doesnt bother her much, he just chasees her around the house. My problem is, whenever I call the dog, Sagwa (my cat) runs and jumps in my lap. She doesnt care about me unless I call the dog, and she knows im calling eddie ( my dog). She is a very affectionat cat, but she hates it when I call the dog. Do cats get jelaous?

Feline "jealousy" may be a response to any number of stimuli - the cat seeking to better its place in the household hierarchy or an opportunist or stronger cat competing for food or attention. The cat does not rationalise it in terms of "I am jealous of the other animal" or "I want what they have"; its feelings will be more along the line of "I am stronger or fitter than them" or "I deserve to be dominant cat around here." Cats are not as strictly hierarchical as dogs, but where several animals live in a single household, they will establish a pecking order.

It sure sounds like to me. I have a dog and a cat that stay in the house all day together. When I get home they both come running. If I pay more attention to one the other one bumps the other out of the way. If I am patting the dog the cat gives the dog a swat and then it is her turn. But I try to pat the two of them together specially when I first come home. My cat Rocket get very jealous.

How is the dog not bothering her much when it "just chases her around the house"? Do you think the cat likes that? Yes - your cat's probably jealous that you're giving the dog more attention and probably a bit pissed that you allow your dog to chase it.

Yes cats do get jealous. My oldest cat jasper hates it when the younger cat oskar gets attention. The same in your case with your dog. At one stage he was actually bashing him up. It was quiet funny when oskar learnt to fight back. Also Jasper lets oskar know if he's annoying, with a bad habit of ran back and forward the lenght of our house oskar eventially gets on jaspers nerves and he will sit on the couch and swip him with his paw as he passes, very funny.

Yes, they can get terribley jealous at times. I had a cat that literally jumped up and knocked another cat out of my arms because he was so jealous. I scolded him for it. I have several cats fight over my attention over the years.

Yes they do. One of mine gets jealous when I watch dog shows on TV, he climbs in my lap and does his best to get my attention away from the TV. When my husband touches me, he gives hubby the evil eye!
