As I understand it, Jesus died to prove to the Jews, God's Chosen People that he was the Son of God.
IF he died and CAME BACK AGAIN, it would be proof that Jesus was the son of God.
Also, Jesus, according to Isaiah, had to be a human sacrifice, a "lamb of God" (from when they sacrificed lambs instead of humans) in accordance with Hebrew law.
The ancient Hebrews used to practice animal sacrifice to attune for their sins. Hence Jesus would be the ultimate sacrifice to apologize to God for all sins of Mankind.
Pretty crazy eh? Why couldn't Jesus say "I am now the son of God, And God says You're all forgiven? or as you say "god could have just as easily excused our sins."
Would have been alot easier on Jesus, and on the Jews too:)

Jesus always existed. He was part of the Trinity in timeless eternity. The sacrifice of Jesus is part of the nature of God Himself. God is holy, and the Bible says He will not excuse the guilty. That would create an imbalance of justice in the universe, some eternal unfairness that would skew the universe more and more toward evil. Jesus, in his death, restored the balance of justice, yet so as to allow repentant sinners to survive the righteous judgment of the Holy God. God has always accounted for this. When we excuse one another in acts of mercy, it is only because God has already provided for that in His design of the universe, in which Jesus is counted as the Lamb who was slain before the foundations of the world were put down. Jesus' death is the true source of all mercy, and His life the source of all true hope.

All those who died in the previous He change into born and then they who trust ascended to heaven with Him. they're Saints in heaven Sheol / Hades is a realm with 2 divisions (Matthew 11:23; 16:18; Luke 10:15; 16:23; Acts 2:27-31), the abodes of the kept and the lost. The abode of the kept change into referred to as "Paradise" (purgatory)and "Abraham's bosom." The abodes of the kept and the lost are separated by a "large gulf fixed" (Luke 16:26). The abode of the dammed change into also there yet separated by an brilliant body of water (Luke 16:19-31) even as Jesus died he descended into Hell / Sheol / The Grave. even as Jesus ascended to Heaven, He took the occupants of Paradise (believers) with Him (Ephesians 4:8-10). The lost fringe of Sheol / Hades has remained unchanged. All unbelieving useless bypass there expecting their very last judgment contained in the destiny. Did Jesus bypass to Sheol / Hades? definite, in accordance to Ephesians 4:8-10 and a million Peter 3:18-20. Catholic Christian †

No one actually knows whether he he did - it could just have been made up in the bible as a good joke, or it could be true - and if so, then there's probably a good reason.
If it had just been a case of god excusing all of our sins, instead of shunning them and punishing those who did not ask forgiveness, then people would now think it's ok to do terrible things, because God will leave them be and there will be no punishment. It wouldn't be safe.

They even give a clue in the Bible when they mention the parables. They like to give you a story which bears a hidden moral that the good way is the right way and eventually triumphs over evil. Just like the subliminal story line in any Disney movie. I think the whole Jesus story is a parable.

Well to tell you the truth...
If you look up true Egyptian beliefs, you find that there is WAY to much relevance to the Christian beliefs...
With Egypt...
Horus was the Sun God...
Horus had a child that was the savior of the Egyptians...
Set was the God of darkness...
He tried to get rid of Horus' child.
The child was born on Dec. 25by a virgin, was a teacher at 12, performed many miracles and dies at 30... crucified at that. And he resurrected within 3 days...
Sound familiar?
The Egyptians believed this way before Jesus was around, so I think the story changed.
Religion is a way to control, what better way than having a savior?? if you look into this for yourself, you can find out. It is all over Youtube.
Not saying Jesus didn't exist, but darn it, it is a lot harder to believe when you find historial facts...

Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the whole world. His one blood sacrifice paid it all for the whole world. Back in those days blood sacrifices were made. So, that is where the verse comes in about God became flesh and dwelt among us. God is a spirit. He had to have a body to shed blood to atone for the sins of the whole world. He robed himself in flesh. He was Jesus Christ, the Son of Mary conceived by being overshadowed by the H.G. He died on the cross for our sins. Therefore, the blood sacrifice was made once and for all, for all mankind.

Dear miu,
Well, first of all..God is a God of justice. There is punishment for crimes both here on earth, and in the spiritual realm. He is also Holy, and to enter heaven, we must be Holy also...but how? On our own we cannot do it..we needed Divine intervention and that's why God came to earth..he took that penalty (that we deserved)..he paid our "prison term" for the wrong we have done..so that justice could be satisfied.
Then he allowed us to be identified with him, in his holiness..so that we could live forever with him in heaven.

israel did not stayed faithful to God. they have sinned and so God gave them to the 2nd death which is hell. and every one is not exempted to this law of God because everyone sinned. but God have plans that is even before our world was created and that was Christ he is the last hope of man kind. from the beginning man must offer a lamb in that way sins were forgiven because of its blood. Then there was Christ who never sinned. the ultimate sacrifice and his blood to be use to purchase the sin of man who are in the flock, the flock is the church, inside his church(not outside), his church the church that was named after him. acts 2O: 28 lamsa translation

Or how come God didn't pick a better time for Jesus to exist like at a time when we have global communications that could broadcast his word instead of using a book that was written over a hundred years after his existance.
