I have this pain in my leg, it's so excruciating I'm nearly in tears. It's 9.20pm here so I can't exactly go to my doctor.

It's my left leg, from just above my knee to my ankle. It's like ground shock but way worse. I thought it could be cramp but I've been drinking plenty of water. It started 4 hours ago and I had work so I just had to grin and bare it, but now I'm at home and it's so painful.

I've had paracetamol. I can't have ibuprofin because it upsets my stomach.

What should I do? Please! And thank you!

I forgot to say that I have past injuries to my back and that ankle. I've never experienced this sort of pain before. I've told my Mum and it's not scabies.

Dear Sarah,

The pain, you are experiencing, could be due to irregular wear of your shoes, standing on a hard surface for long periods of time, or a combination of the two. I have a propensity to wear down the outer heels of my shoes. The irregular wear, causes stress, on my knees, resulting in pain radiating down my legs.

Sometimes, the wear is apparent. However, you can't always tell by visual examination, particularly with athletic shoes. There may be an uneven loss of elasticity, in the material comprising the heel and sole. Such wear, is harder to identify.

The best test, is, wearing of new shoes, or relatively new shoes. If you have a pair on hand, please put them on immediately, even if you are staying indoors, and usually walk about your home in bare feet, or socked feet. The support rendered, by intact shoes, may provide immediate relief.

Lastly, I know you work in Subway, where the floor you stand on may be tile, terrazzo, or other hard surface. Such surfaces are great for cleanliness. However, they are hard on the individuals who stand on them. If you do stand on such a surface, is there a wooden grate, or at least a thick rubber mat separating you from the hard surface?

You could, very well be suffering from a combination of standing on a hard surface, and wearing irregularly worn shoes. The irregularly worn shoes, cause stress, on your knees. The hard surface intensifies, the stress.

Hi Wabby, I know how it is to deal with pain. I have had 3 surgeries and the last one they did a total knee replacement and removed my knee cap. I have a flat looking right knee.
Sarah try putting a heat pad on you knee and down your leg,if you do not get any relief in 20 minutes go to the ER this is something that's serious and needs to be seen right away. So Sorry for your pain!!!
A Friend,

If there is no apparent reason or history related to your pain, it could just be growing pain. [You are 17 and may still be growing]. You may wrap up the paining portion in a cloth and it would go ina few hours. Good luck.

Go to the hospital Immediatelyl. They are opened 24 hours. Even if it's not a big deal when you get there it's better to be safe then sorry.

And dont wait! I really hope you feel better. Take Care.

It will be too late now for anything I say to help, but see if your Doctor can prescribe some codeine based tablet.
I use Codalgin, for back pain.
I hope you were able to get a good nights sleep Wabby.

put some cream on it that relaxes your muscle and wrap a blanket around it, you have to heat it up so the muscle tension is released. you probably have muscle stress going down to your leg. If you unevenly exercise that could cause pains like this.

I had this kind of pain when my legs got cold. Try to massage the leg and put a sport gel to warm it. If it is still hurts then go to doctor.

If you can make it till morning go to your doctor then. If not get someone to take you to the ER. Sudden unexplained pain could be serious. Sorry, I don't know what it is.

You better go to the ER-you could be getting ready to throw a clot into your lungs, brain or heart. Seriously.

Do you have someone at home with you. Go tell them and see if you can go to a hospital emergency dept. It doesn't sound normal.

If there's nobody at home, call a friend or a neighbour.
