7.62 would not fit in M4 and 5.56 would not fire in AK-47.

There was a rumor that the AK47 could use our 5.56 bullet, but I never saw anything that said if it was true since our bullet is longer then thiers. Also, the smaller caliber of our bullet would bounce around inside the barrel and have almost no accuracy if it did fire.

A 7.62 bullet would not fit in the chamber of an M-16 series at all because its too big for the chamber. Our 7.62 machine guns use a 7.62x59 bullet not a 7.62x39. That means the casing is 20mm longer then the AK47's casing. Its too short to chamber in our weapons.

Well, if you could somehow jam a 7.62 at the end of the 5.56 chamber, it would probably blow up in your face at the hammer.
A 5.56 in a 7.62 probably wouldn't do anything because the pin and the middle of the round wouldn't be lined up right. Or, if it did go off, it would bounce around on its way out of the barrel. And probably fly off in a weird direction.

First of all, the .223 round will just go into the chamber of the AK-47 and just rattle around . The 7.62x39 AK -47 round will not even come close to chambering in the M-16/AR-15 type rifles.

it is not possible to put a 7.62 round into the 5.56 barrel. it is like trying to fit the S t-shirt when you are XXL bodied.
vice versa it is possible to put the round into the AK barrel, but it won't get fired, and if so, then it would not have enough muzzle velocity due to the low pressure in the barrel / the proppelant gasses leaking around the small bullet.

fit the proper ammo into the proper weapon.

more than that these weapons most probably have strikingly different bolting mechanisms.

Unless you change the upper receiver of say the m-4 or the m-16 designed for 7.62mm round, it won't work.

You'd probably have a hell of a time chambering the round.

Obviously they are different sizes. What happens if you put a 2 inch ball in a 5 inch hole? What happens when you put a 5 inch ball in a 2 inch hole?

If you understand basic math(2nd grade), you can figure this out yourself.

The round wouldn't fit on the bolt face, so it wouldn't work.

It wouldn't fit.
