the proper way to pray is by expressing your heart to God. sitting, standing, or kneeling; hands open or closed; eyes opened or closed; in a church, at home, or outside; at morning or at night – those are all side issues, subject to personal preference, conviction and appropriateness. God’s desire is that prayer be a personal and real connection between us and him.

I don't pray but if I did I wouldn't feel the need to pray. After all the guy is supposed to know you. Putting on some act by kneeling isn't going to impress him. However if you genuinely feel the need to kneel and it's not just something you do out of habit, then I'm sure he won't mind either. The point is you shouldn't get too caught up in ritual.

I pray whenever and wherever I maybe. However, when I feel need to show my reverence and humility I kneel. It is never a bad thing to show humility to GOD. Sometimes it sets a good example for others.

As the other people said, private prayer is about talking to God in any posture, any place, any time.
The tradition of kneeling to pray comes to us from the Jewish customs. In Hebrew the word for Knee is the same as the word for Strength, thus knees symbolized the strength of a person. So to bend your knee meant quite literally to bend your strength or surrender, and this you did before God as a sign of recognizing Him as the true strength. This is why it became part of the Liturgy.

I defenitely kneel if I am before a holy icon like a statue. painting or crucifix during prayer. At times when I am not I do not feel it necessary to kneel.

I do believe this is a most personal act & think it truly matters only if your heart tells you it does.

sincere regards,
Philip

I think a person's god knows what's in their heart when they pray, and I doubt very much any of them really care what posture their believers take when they do so. Do you honestly think your god is going to say "Depart from me, ye who did not kneel!!"? That'd be pretty ridiculous, no?

No, but some people find kneeling helps them focus. If they fall asleep, it wakes them up without permanent damage.

God's not looking for a posture, he's looking for conversation. You're his kid, for crying out loud! He's just happy to hear from you.
