Its hard to say how much they get paid. It really depends on their sponsors, how they did in the race, how many laps they led and so forth. Ive included a link that tells a little about how they figure out how much they get paid. I do know they get paid for a particular race around 2-3 weeks after the official results of that race have been posted to NASCAR. Also as far as I know a driver splits his winnings on a race with his crew, so if he won $500,000 his crew is getting some of that. How much I don't know. I know in 2007 Tony Stewart won a total of $5,835,280 and that is just from racing, not from his sponsors. On the same note David Ragan only made $129,610 in his 2006 season. Hope this helps.

NASCAR Nextel Cup drivers are generally signed to multi-year contracts by their team owners. These contracts vary depending on the driver but most if not all are over a million dollars a year. There were some recent court cases involving former Ginn Motorsports drivers in which the drivers contracts were entered into the court records so it in some cases you can see the contracts and read the terms and the dollar values. Drivers then get a set percentage of the purse (usually 40-50%). A chase level Cup driver is going to clear 5 million or so a year. Jr is in the 50 million range when you add merch and endorsements.

The amount of money that goes into a race is insane. There is the money they get based on where they place by NASCAR, there are television awards and sponsor awards. The television awards are normally fastest lap, fastest pit stop, move of the week, things like that. Sponsor awards are like Home Depot will give $5,000 for the driver who came in 20th or something along those lines (that is not an exact amount/position, I'm just giving an example)
