I plan on going to college and studying international business and languages. I am a good french speaker but plan on continuting my studies in french in college. I could conceivably study both german and Chinese in college too. This would obviously be a lot of work but it might be worth it. If you think i should only do one, which one?

You should go for Chinese.

Chinese will be 1st priority because it is the hottest market now and it is a great market opportunity in the South East Asia. Beside China market, you can also goes into Hong Kong and Taiwan market. If you know Chinese, you will also be able to go learn Japanese later too. I know Mandarin Chinese and when I later study for my Japanese, the Chinese language actually helped me a lot. It might be tough for you in the beginning but nothing is easy anyway. Also, with Chinese languages in hand, you can choose almost any other careers too.

Some companies I know are in demand of their staffs knowing a 2nd language especially Chinese Mandarin and Cantonese.

Good luck and hope you can work hard towards your dream!

Mandarin. There is no need to study German. Most Germans in the business world can speak english. You should look into Hindi as well. India and China will have the top economies in about 15 to 20 years. The way things are going that is....

They say that everybody who wants to be in the business world should learn Japanese. . . but that doesn't really help you very much, because those aren't your options. If you are looking for a challenge, go with Chinese. For a native English speaker, German is fairly easy to learn (I thought so, anyways). For business, though, go for Chinese. Maybe you can tell someone over there how to make toys.

German. It is very similar to English. As good as you think you are at French, you would probably be lost if actually stranded in France. Use your time in college to become fluent in French and passable in German. Don't even think about Chinese unless you plan to live there.

Well I'm chinese and i can speak it just fine but writing is so hard! I can't even write in chinese! If you are willing to study hard, then go for chinese and a great job is heading your way! But I think German is easier.

If you want an easy path - take German, but if you want the more beneficial path - take Chinese. Mandarin is very difficult to learn to speak and even more difficult to learn to write, but in the world of business it will be nearly indispensable in the near future. Its become so important in fact that they have started to teach it in some American -elementary schools-!

If those are your only options, study both. If you can also select from others you might want to study Latin and Greek.

Ask yourself what you want to do for a career. Chose the language that will best support your dream.

If you can handle TWO- study Spanish & Chinese. THAT way you'll have the entire language migration pattern of the Northern Hemisphere coverd- for the next 50 years, and you'll NEVER be without Employment! :)
