Could it be the gap started when satan sinned and that the Genesis account is a recreation of the earth after satan's sin caused God to destroy it? The Bible seems to have two spans of time that are contrasted. They relate to the foundation of the world. God was active before and after the foundation of the world. What do you think?

Zorro its just very refreshing that ppl want to know more about what God wants to reveal to us. His Word is not meant to be debateable. So I suggest you pray before reading His Word so the He will reveal wisdom to you.

i find it amazing how much some bible teachers try to fit between genesis 1:1 and 1:2. some try to fit millions of years of history, the dinosaurs, another race of humans that fell and became satan and the demons, etc., etc. – all in between genesis 1:1 and 1:2. don’t you think that if something important had occurred between the two verses God would have told us so? i don't think God wants us to have to speculate about such important events.

what took place between genesis 1:1 and 1:2? absolutely nothing! genesis 1:1 tells us that God created the heavens and the earth. genesis 1:2 informs us that when he first created the earth, it was formless, empty, and dark. the rest of genesis chapter 1 tells us how God “rectified” the formless, empty, and dark earth – filling it with life, beauty, and goodness

I don't why anyone would read Genesis literally in the first place. Compared to other metaphysical literature in the ancient world, there is no reason to assume that Genesis was intended as history.

No I believe there are 2 accounts because 2 different authors wrote 2 different stories that were later combined in "the genesis story". In this particualr case you are talking about the E author and the J author.

But of course NOT 'cause it would've made sense for God to destroy Satan also.~~the TIME thing again.

Yes!

That theory will take flight I hope. What I also hope is that many more Christians will wake up to it. Traditional translations of those verses are difficult to break. But I am not bound to them!

Any Christian can do the study themselves. All they need is a concordance and a Bible. Any one may do it.
