I've spent a significant ammount of my life searching for some nugget of proof of God's existance and have never heard anything more convincing than "You have to have faith"

Where does faith come from then? Isnt accepting something without any evidence whatsoever foolish? How is this any differant than the propaganda used to brainwash the nazis?

How can you tell an artist painted a painting? What proof do you need to believe the artist existed?

Some people are brainwashed with religion but not everyone is. Jesus changed my life, I just prayed on my own for him to do so and over the next few weeks he did.I know it sounds crazy but I really don't care. it is what it is.

Well, we know that air exists even if we cannot see it. You believe without anyone trying so hard to dictate it to you. Life is already God’s gift to us. We sometimes cannot comprehend when bad thing happen but everything happens for a reason and we cannot blame it all to God as people also make choices in life. This is faith…. Like a relationship with a man and a woman if this couple made a commitment with each other and having faith with each other to be always there. Faith of God existence does not mean you need to always see something… you need to believe and trust. By opening our mind and just let God speak to us in His perfect time, you will feel and see that He is there all the time.

Brainwashing is something not true and making a person believe that it is… usually the person doing this knows that it is all a lie as trying to deceive someone.

Brainwashing is something that is done to force people who otherwise would not join to join and behave and follow orders; religion is your own faith, something you choose because you love God and believe in Him or a higher power. BIG difference.
Nazis, BTW, were not brainwashed; most of Germany accepted Hitler and would do his bidding no matter what...as is evidenced by what the Allies found when they liberated the camps.

I keep answering these types of questions with the same typical thumbs down gathering answer. I guess I will never learn! lol

The term, 'brainwashing' wasn't always thought to be a bad thing until the Vietnam war. Before that, it could mean a good thing. Like school, or work, or . . . . music. If you play music, you may typically find that you have a bad habit which prevents you from performing a certain way. You 'brainwashed' yourself into doing it by habit, and you need to 'brainwash' yourself into doing it the right way. Your mind needs to change or you will always make the same mistake over and over again.

With 'religion' yeah, there are a lot of religions that brainwash for the worse. But the one I know, I was brainwashed into doing better. I am more stable because of it. Like: Not wanting to kill myself anymore - I would call that positive, in my opinion. But it wasn't really religion that did that for me. Religion is the illusion of spirituality. Jesus is the reality of spirituality. And so I trust Him, and He keeps His promises to me. It works like that.

So that 'relationship' that people bring up sometimes, that's what I am talking about. Religion to me clouds the issue. The relationship with God is where things get uncloudy, and the brainwashing that I receive makes me stronger, not weaker.

Brianwashing is a cult where the leader stops you from doing certian things saying its against the rules of the cult. Religion is a set of beliefs and Faith. Religion is in your heart. You can feel a good and lovely presence of God there with you.

For people who are skeptical like you, I can tell you now that you won't see or understand a difference. You don't want to know or understand God. If you want to call us brainwashed, then go right ahead. That's probably the only way you can see Christianity, because you can't comprehend God the way we do.

For those of us who have faith, we know God is real, and we choose to follow and believe Him.

Accepting the existence of a god without proof is just the first step in being indoctrinated into a religion. A couple of answers here even tried this old trick. Saying that "god is good accepting that there is good is accepting that there is god.." It sounds so simple hey; all one must do is think of good stuff and blammo! God is apparently real. But it's not that simple because with god comes doctrine. Doctrine forces people to change their judgment to co-align with the doctrine. It forces them to become part of group which is at odds with other groups. Sadly, it forces them to hate things that they otherwise would not normally hate or even notice. For example; Muslims with their hatred of anyone non-Muslim. Their doctrine instructs them to convert non-Muslims and kill the ones who don't convert. Christians are forced by their doctrine to use fear and shock tactics to terrorize children into becoming Christian and they hate those people who harm no one but have a lifestyle which is at odds with Christian doctrine. Jews are forced to retain their individuality, their absurd belief that their god, which is the only god in existence thinks the Jews are more special than other people.

Religion; it just doesn't make sense.

There's no difference. Think for yourself, question everything, you'll live free and happy.
Religions (especially Christianity) are nothing more than brainwashing. Children are told from a young age they will go to Hell if they don't believe in it. They have Jesus on shirts that look like a rock band t-shirt and in music and they have haunted houses that they don't tell you until they get there that the theme is 'Armaggedon, Believe!' or some other crap like that, etc.
It's ridiculous.

Yes, accepting something without any evidence whatsoever is foolish. As a Christian the "faith" answer kills me. It's cheap banter. I believe in God because I met Jesus, he sought me out and bought me over, not because I decided one day to "just have faith".
