Nikon owners will tell you there is none. Even if there is... the best " " (put in your own brand name) camera, it can still only take snap shots in the hands of a no talent operator. I can (and have) take a picture with a cigar box with a hole in it. It is not the camera that takes the great picture, it is the talent of the artist using the camera. In my case, I chose a Pentax DSLR over a Canon, Nikon and Olympus because I use a Miranda 35 and many of my Miranda accessories are inter-changeable. It is also my opinion that you get far more (overall) bang for the buck with Pentax over the other big names. With my Pentax and it's 18x55mm and 70x300mm lenses and the wired remote control and Vivitar external flash as well as several filters (UV and Polarizing for example) I dare say I am about as well equipped on the digital side as I am on the film side. My main work by the way, is macro photography, so that is why I made the lens choices that I did.

I'm a Nikon owner and I chose a Canon for my point and shoot camera.

Right now, the "best" would have to be the new SD950-IS. I have the SD900 and it's a great camera. The SD950-IS ought to be better with a slightly larger sensor and image stabilization.

The best buy for the quality you receive is probably the SD850-IS. B&H Photo has it for $310.

The S-series depends on which region you are from, for most asian country, S-Series refers to S3-is, S5-is series, while europe countries refers the S-series to those SD850 series (which is point-n-shoot IXUS series in asian countries).

The S5-is is for semi-professional user with powerful zoom and image stabilizer. the best model so far would be the S5-is.

For point-n-shoot, IXUS 950IS (please check the europe model) would be the right one to go for if you are looking for some handy stuff. with 4x optical zoom and stabalizer, its more than enough for daily use.
