A true atheist (at least from the thousands I've seen on this site) revels in the misery of their counterparts, and enjoys mocking their supposed narrow-minded delusions. Sure they want them to think like they do, but only after realizing how stupid they once were.

A true Christian prays for their counterpart, and would like nothing more than to welcome him or her into the fellowship. Even the truest of Christians will lose their temper and say something harsh, but how long can patience last when the mocker is continually sabotaging the party, even though he has an invitation?

For a Christian, it's all about Jesus. Trusting Jesus. As time goes on and the Christian develops into maturity, He or she learns how God reacts, but most importantly, what the Holy Spirit is guiding them to do. Sometimes Jesus showed us this.

Here is the Jesus who shoots from the hip:

44 "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? 47 He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."
( John 8 )

An here is the Jesus who sees beyond the surface with His love and genius:

16 He told her, "Go, call your husband and come back."

17 "I have no husband," she replied.

Jesus said to her, "You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true."

19 "Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem."

21 Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

25 The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us."

26 Then Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am he."
( John 4 )

He so very dear to me.

I typically see the opposite. I see more Christians bashing other religions not just Atheism though it is the main one criticized in
Religion & Spirituality.

You see it your way. You're a Christian so you'll feel attacked by the Atheists and probably by my answer. However, they probably feel the same when you're judging them. Have you ever thought of that?

Christians aren't the only ones being corrected. Christians are also correcting Atheists.

If everyone just tries to understand that everyone has their own beliefs and that any of us may be wrong, then I think that these discussions would run more smoothly.

Nobody wants an invitation to a party of the brain dead.
We don't revel in the misery of christians we just pity them. Such a waste of a lifetime.
Obviously if prayer worked there would be no atheists but it doesn't.
If you want proof just ask all those western hostages who have been beheaded in Iraq.

As an atheist, I've been condemned to hell and if not for the laws of this country, be burnt on a stake like a witch.
Funny thing is, only christians have been judgementally saying I'm going to hell, and the have been mocking my non-theistic beliefs.
My patience still remains intact, and I'm not about to become intolerant like you are about to be. Sticks & stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.

Cymon,
What you say about both sides is common but not nearly true of all. I try my best to stay out of the "rock throwing parties" that occur here, but I am drawn in late iin the evening when I am really tired and have had low blood sugars all day. I must apologize for that. I am a Christian and I have seen those rocks thrown by both sides but BIG ROCKS are thrown by Christians many times rather than attempting to soothe over a topic. There are a number of Atheists who never are nasty with others and you seem to have forgotten them also. Please don't say such things when they are definitely NOT TRUE on here! I have seen a number of people who believe themselves to be True Christians who carry large weapons on here also. Have a great day and a wonderful week.
Thanks,
Eds

Well now you're spending your time basing atheists on a website intended for people with genuine questions. So is being petty and instigating ill will really so much better?

Atheists may not have an inspired set of beliefs to tell them how to be the best they can be... we believe in figuring it out for ourselves. Some people may not care and will act like tools (and some of these people post on Y!A), but then again, some Christians exhibit equally horrible behavior. And many of them, like the Westboro Baptist Church people, seem to truly believe that their way is the 'right' way to be Christian.

A true atheist doesn't try to convert anyone and respects their beliefs.

A true Christian tries to convert people into Christianity, even if they don't want to know about it.

Why?

The Bible tells them to 'spread' the word of God.

If that's what you think a true atheist is, you have a lot of learning to do.

Somehow, I don't think the "how do you feel, knowing that you'll burn for eternity?" questions are exactly trying to welcome atheists into something they don't believe in.

You have to consider everything, and realize that there are rational people and *rseholes on both sides.

I find religious folks, and atheist folk to be a lot alike. Both just know they're right and both feel the need to try to make the other one look stupid. Of course that's just the obnoxious ones not all atheists or all christians.
