awwww... you are the coolest person on the planet.

Do they have a special place? If not ... then just pick a beautiful place and do it there. Some place that is romantic and secluded and very cool. I would prefer the river, but a park can be nice too.

Make sure there is a nice picnic table there or get them a nice fluffy blanket and big floor pillows so they can lean on them and just relax and enjoy themselves.

Fried chicken is a great picnic meal... make sure to get a nice pie and some veggies for them. Include toothpicks so if they want to smootch they wont have corn n stuff stuck in their teeth.... lol.

I think sharon, answered it well, I will just throw in my two cents worth.
Go for the river, it's much nicer, as the sound of running water, is very relaxing, and the view much nicer.
Depending on the park, it could be, and often is, very busy, with lots of people around. So that could be distracting.
Your parents are lucky to have someone as sweet as you to do this for them.
I'm sure they will appreciate the effort. And I'm sure you have the menu all picked out already.
Good luck and have fun.

where did your parents meet? Near a river or in a park? Maybe at a church or party? If you can find that out, you may be able to have the surprise at that location. I assume this party is for their wedding anniversary. Are you inviting others? Only family? If this is for an anniversary, you could also invite their wedding party attendents. What are you doing about food? Depending on the size of the party/number of guests, you can choose to have it catered, or ask each couple to bring a "dish to pass", or even assign each family to bring a certain food item they are "well-known" for--like Aunt Lucy could bring her family famous potato salad and cousin Joe and his family could bring fried chicken. That type of assignment. You could also ask each family to bring their own beverages, silverware and plates. You'd provide the napkins and coffee. Don't forget--if you have it in a public park, find one with a shelter and you may have to contact your city parks dept to reserve it on your party day. Have fun, your mom and dad will be very pleased.
