This question earlier says the Bible has been proven false but did not give any examples. (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtuYfx2ZUnW02gjL0Vh_pSPsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071027204848AANFNhJ&show=7#profile-info-9724ec2e180400040f13c8e93577edcdaa )

I am curious about WHAT parts of the Bible have been PROVEN false?

Skepticsannotated is the quinessential example of Scriptures taken "out of context." I have spent many hours on that site.

Skeptics annotated does not even try to grasp even a basic understanding of the cultural context or setting of the texts.

2007-10-27 17:53:44 · update #2

Not to mention their contradictions list is simply ripping a single verse out and comparing to another single verse.

Talking donkies and snakes.
No evidence of the worldwide flood (not exactly disproven, but you get the point).
Lot's wife turning into a pillar of salt..
Walking on water..
Water into wine...

I wouldn't say the Bible is false (even if I think it is), but I know there is lots of stuff that just doesn't make any logical sense.

um ... you're not asking much. hehehe! it would take hours for me to cut and paste all the flaws in the Bible but how about i just provide a few.

in Leviticus God list the varieties of birds that must not be eaten, among them herons, eagles owls and BATS. bats are not birds. Lev 11:13-19

in Leviticus God provides a cure for leprosy that entails the ritual killing of doves Lev 14.2-52. leprosy can not be cured by killing doves however well rehearsed is the ritual.

it took 40 YEARS for the Israelites to travel from Egypt to Canaan. even back in Moses' day such a journey wouldn't have taken more than 2 weeks.

God causes the sun and the moon to stand still in the sky so Joshua can finish a battle. well, God would have had to cause the Earth to stop spinning because the sun and the moon don't really travel across the sky. Josh 10.12-13

Chronicles 16:30 "Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved."
i'm pretty sure the Earth spins on an axis and travels around the sun.

Jer 8:17 For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you, saith the LORD.
cockatrices? oooh riiiight. they are found in similar habitats as unicorns, dragons and satyrs which are also mentioned in the Bible.

well, enough for now. if you're really interested you can do your own research.

PS. cultural context? wait a minute... do you mean to say that The Word of God, The Eternal and Unchanging Truth is dependent on interpreting "cultural context"?! you mean ... God didn't really mean to say that bats are birds and the sending of nasty cockatrices was an empty threat meant only to freak out the ignorant natives?

To say the Bible is "false" is to demonstrate an ignorance of the Bible that’s only comparable to the people who think the Bible is without error.

The Bible is a collection of 66 different books, some history, some poetry, some songs, some letters, as well as the rules of an ancient religion . . . written over the span of thousands of years. Problems arise when people can't tell one from another, and confuse them into each other.

The Bible is an anthology, not one book. Take a book of prayer, a book of songs, a book of history, a volume of folk history . . . tie them all together, and call them a single Bible – that’s the Bible. Of course there are differences – it’s a chapter of poetry, not history.

Problems arise when you try to take a rule written for and by a certain group of people, and apply it to your life today (taking your disobedient child to the gates of the city to stone him, for example).

People tend to focus on the words in the Bible, and miss the message behind the story. The creation story of Genesis 1 and 2, for example, are poetry, the message is that God is powerful, neither of which is a history lesson.

Adam and Eve is a metaphor -- not literal history. It's poetic parable -- not the literal story of two people, for example.

The Bible is a fantastic collection of stories written by, about, and for the followers of the God of Abraham, and the followers of Christ.

Here's the thing . . . non-believers look at "contradictions" and think they can't believe anything in the Bible. But, if everything made perfect, edited sense -- the Gospel according to John on it's own, for example -- then the same non-believers would claim that that book of the Bible was edited and can't be believed. So, non-believers have it covered, either way.

Godspeed.

WOW...where to START? How about LE 14:33-57 God himself believes that a house or clothes can have leprosy and he details the remedy, and the remedy includes an animal sacrifice.

EX 12:37, NU 1:45-46 The number of men of military age who take part in the Exodus is given as about 600,000. Allowing for women, children, and older men would probably mean that a total of more than 2,000,000 Israelites left Egypt at a time when the whole population of Egypt was less than 2,000,000.

DT 1:1 Moses speaks to "all" of Israel, perhaps 2,000,000 people

1KI 6:2, 2CH 3:3 Solomon's temple was only about ninety feet long by thirty feet wide, yet:
1KI 5:15-16 153,300 persons were employed to build it.
1KI 6:38 It took seven years to build.
1CH 22:14 ~7,500,000 lbs. of gold and ~75,000,000 lbs. of silver were used.
1CH 23:4 24,000 supervisors and 6,000 officials and judges were employed to manage it. (Note: Inasmuch as there seems to be uncertainty as to the exact weight of the biblical talent, some estimates place the weight of gold at more than 13,000,000 lbs. and the weight of silver at more than 116,000,000 lbs.)

2KI 16:2, 20, 18:1-2 Ahaz was thirty-six years old when he died. His twenty-five year old son Hezekiah succeeded him. Thus Ahaz was a ten or eleven year old father.

2CH 7:5, 8-9 Solomon sacrificed 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep in one week. This is 845+ animals per hour, 14+ animals per minute, for seven days straight.

JE 20:7, EZ 14:9 Jeremiah says that the Lord deceived his own prophet. God himself says that he deceives his own prophets in order to get rid of them.

MK 16:17-18 Those who believe are able to handle snakes and drink any deadly poison without suffering harm.

And then there's all the flip-flops
GE 1:3-5 On the first day, God created light, then separated light and darkness.
GE 1:14-19 The sun (which separates night and day) wasn't created until the fourth day.

GE 1:24-27 Animals were created before man was created.
GE 2:7, 19 Man was created before animals were created

GE 1:28 God encourages reproduction.
LE 12:1-8 God requires purification rites following childbirth which, in effect, makes childbirth a sin.

GE 2:17 Adam was to die the very day that he ate the forbidden fruit.
GE 5:5 Adam lived 930 years.

GE 2:15-17, 3:4-6 It is wrong to want to be able to tell good from evil.
HE 5:13-14 It is immature to be unable to tell good from evil.

GE 6:6. EX 32:14, NU 14:20, 1SA 15:35, 2SA 24:16 God does change his mind.
NU 23:19-20, 1SA 15:29, JA 1:17 God does not change his mind.

GE 11:7-9 God sows discord.
PR 6:16-19 God hates anyone who sows discord.

GE 16:15, 21:1-3, GA 4:22 Abraham had two sons, Ishmael and Isaac.
HE 11:17 Abraham had only one son.

GE 35:10 God says Jacob is to be called Jacob no longer; henceforth his name is Israel.
GE 46:2 At a later time, God himself uses the name Jacob.

2SA 24:1 The Lord inspired David to take the census.
1CH 21:1 Satan inspired the census.

MT 1:23 He will be called Emmanuel (or Immanuel).
MT 1:25 Instead, he was called Jesus.

MT 11:29 Jesus says that he is gentle (meek) and humble (lowly).
JN 2:15 Jesus makes a whip of cords, drives the money changers from the Temple, overturns their tables, and pours out their coins. (Note: The presence of the money changers in the outer court of the Temple had been authorized by the Temple authorities and was, in fact, a necessity since the Jews would not accept Roman coin for the purchase of sacrifices.)

And so on...and so on....and so on....

Skepticsannotatedbible.com has the entire chapter of each book of the Bible on a single page. How is it out of context?

1 Kings also says pi = 3. It doesn't, and the amount would be noticeable.

i'm going to easily at present day communicate approximately one (of a few); the index (my present day terminology). It does no longer tournament scripture. It defines old tetament as Genesis-Malachi. The scriptural old testomony became completed away while Christ died on the circulate. The e book of Genesis isn't 'old testomony'; examples a woman's discomfort at newborn start (Ge. 3), the rainbow (Gen. 9), the different languages (Gen.11). The scriptural 'old testomony' is the regulation of Moses (synonym; old testomony) 2 Cor. 3:13-14 KJV or NKJV (different English translations tend to apply the word presently of old covenant.

Nothing has been proven false, but the anti Christian ppl will make their claims all the time, tho they are only their own personal opinions. men of science cannot be trusted, when they go against God, God warns of this in 1 tim 6:20.
Also, there are no contradictions in the Bible either.
Only things that manknd doesnt yet understand.
The Bible fits like a giant glorious jigsaw puzzle , that when it is finnished forms the entire plan of God. but they are little bitty pieces. Going togehter one tiny piece at a time.
and once they fit , the whole thing forms into this picture that is so clear. IF we see there appears to be contradiction, we must know that its because there are more pieces of the puzzle we dont know yet, but God calls us to study the Bible to know and be sure, and to pray. HE gives so many new revelations to His faithful and obedient children.
Things you may have thought were wrong or contradictory two years ago, you suddenly find a new piece of the puzzle in scripture, and its like WOWOWOWOW, now, all that other stuff, just clicked in with this next scripture and n ow you KNOW.
God wants the Bible to be something we must study to understand and KNOW. Otherwise if it were easy, ppl would try and memorize enough to KNow and never go back to it.
ALso, God reveals things to us as we are ready to receive deeper and newer meaning. A new Christian may only go so deep with what they are learning, as they arent ready to learn it to fullness yet, but in time, they begin to add more and more and suddenly WOWOWOW. But, when you have been a Christian for a long time, and you genuinely want to know and obey God, you will study a lot to understand and you will pray for more revelation as we hae the Holy Spirit there to guide us and show us what next folks...
Nothing in the Bible is false and there are no contradictions. And if you think you see things that dont make sense, it means you are being called to study even more to find the next piece or pieces of the puzzle to fit into what you already have to make it form a picture. We will be doing this all of our lives, till Jesus comes and I count it all as Joy to know God more and in deeper and newer ways. HE never changes, but He expects us to change and be more like Christ, as we learn to know HIm more and what is actually expected of us. God commands us to be like Jesus Christ. Not to just obey when its convenient. We are to have the mind and excellent character of Jesus Christ, with no execuses, and we can do that by the power of the Holy Spirit which we received because of the sehd blood of Jesus Christ upon the cross at Calvary.
ITs all good folks.
Today is the Lords day. Lets celebrate even more powerfully today as we study unto deepness the ways of the Lord.
God bless you all This wonderful Sunday. Wherever you are, may you feel loved and blessed by God.
and remember to pray against the evils of Halloween.
God will bless you...
