Colt, Smith & Wesson
, Kimber or Springfild Armory. Those are the ones I have been looking at, I have about a $1,000 budget , don’t want to go over to much, but will for a good gun.

Springfield. You should be able to get a high-quality piece for $1,000.

The best is a Wilson Combat or Les Baer both of which are out of your price range. The Colt, Kimber or Springfield Armory are all excellent weapons you will get the most for the money with the Springfield Armory. Sig Sauer also makes a excellent 1911 and it's a Sig.

Gotta love the Colt. I don't believe they make any handguns any more, so you're looking at the "used" market.

I have a model 1991 (they reintroduced the model 1911 with some modifications) which is a great model. I wish I had had the $$$ to buy a Gold Cup though ... that was the ultimate .45, used widely among the top target competitors.

Springfields have always had a great rep. I don't believe most other makes chambered for .45 acp are of the original design though (Glock, Sig, etc.) Not that they aren't great firearms, but nothing feels and points quite like a model 1911. It is truly a timeless design.

Colt, the original manufacturer of course!

But if you just want a .45cal pistol, the Heckler and Koch USP-45 Tactical is a better gun that may actually be slightly cheaper, has almost twice as many bullets per magazine, and much better accuracy. These notes have been taken from experience shooting both the USP and the 1911 (Colt version)

Colt, but they are not producing many these days, if any at all, so people are scooping up brands like Springfield, Kimber, Wilson, Baer, etc

Honestly, I think they all have their pro's and con's, it is hard to say what you are going to like without putting your hands all of them to get at least the feel.....But I checked out prices on some of the brands mentioned and they are well within your budget on the site listed below, click on the link and check it out, thats where I shop!!!
