how do I log into kopete? (on Linux Kubuntu 7.10)?

where do I put in my email?

It might be under the MSN option.

Whenever you start to use a new program click on each of of the Tabs first to get an idea of what features are buit-in. If you get "error messages": It usually means you are doing something wrong!!!

Open Kopete and click on the Help TAB to read the step-by-steps, tutorials, etc. If the program doesn't have a Help TAB, look on the website for guidance.

Then, if you have a specific question that is NOT covered there, please re-post.
